Gas Smell Slow Start
2008 BMW e90 328i 128K you can smell gas from outside the car and inside the cabin while driving. Seems like it's from engine not tank. Takes a couple of seconds to start. At first it was intermittent, now it's consistent. Runs perfectly. I replaced the Fuel Tank Vent Valve BMW # 13907618643. Did not change anything. Any ideas?

Seems classic symptoms of either leaking fuel pressure regulator or pump. Has both rear seats removed and inspected for gas pool/leak? Assuming 335i and 328i have similar setup...

Yes, that sounds exactly like my cousins 2008 E92 - long cranks and strong petrol smell. I lifted up the back seat and I believe it was four bolts to remove the fuel pressure regulator cover. As soon as that cover was off I clearly saw and smelled the leak.
She was known to always drive it on empty though, treating it like her phone. Perhaps that accelerated the issue. |
