E91 XWagon lowering springs- Need some help.
Good morning all. Looking for some insight and guidance on what to do with my lowered E91 wagon. I purchased this car a few months back and it is already lowered and tinted out. Super fun car that is quick. It has Open Road Tuning shock and spring in the rear and the Bilstein B8 strut with Eiback Pro Kit spring on the front. The car sits low. Too low on the front for my taste as I scrape quite regularly. Would going to the H&R sport springs (product code 50494-3) raise me up any? I would like to raise it up maybe a half inch for clearance improvements. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

Is your wagon RWD or Xdrive?

H&R are rarely higher than anything, often the lowest or at least among the lowest drop.
The car will accommodate significantly larger diameter tires - I run 225/45/18 on the front of my e90 which obviously raises the car 1/2" more than what you have. These fill the wheel wells pleasingly while not lowering the car. I am often asked how much my car is lowered because of the full wheel wells but the answer is zero it is slightly raised (stock sport springs). If your tires are beat or you want to upgrade to a more sporting tire and you like the springs otherwise larger tires might get you what you want. 50 series instead of 45 will raise you up about 1/2". You might also be able to fit 235's at least. I would check with ix owners to make sure of fit, I do not have AWD.

Great info and response. Thank you. I currently have the 225/45R17 and was wanting to go to a 245/45R17 on some 17x8.5 wheels. The front springs are off the E90 Eibach Pro Kit and I can't read the part number on the spring. So with the H&R feedback being lower than Eibach, I will stick with what I have and just try to get a larger wheel/ tire on there and see what happens. |

Given the sporting character of the springs and shocks, I would go with an 18" wheel all day long. Very widely available for e90's as well at a low price, staggered or not. Fit up some Michelin PS4S which feel God-like on my e90 and that crate will be transformed.

I run the stock e90 early sport package which are 18x8 and 18x8.5 I believe. Style 162. These wheels are very durable but none too light. I have never run 17’s on e90 except for my winter set, but I much prefer the non-rft 45 series front and 40 series rear over the stock rft 40 series front and 35 series rear. I cut down two very expensive ZP michelins right over the apex and never felt I hit anything hard enough to do so and the rims were unmarked. No issue since fitting the taller non runflats, and the ride is superb.
Interesting I work for Goodyear. I run Michelins on the e90 because Goodyear has no reasonable 255/40R18 for the rear. As you may know many sizes of the PS4S are made by C3M method on a mandrel. The ones I have are spectacularly round, I cannot detect any runout or harmonics at all, easily the most uniform tires I have ever driven on. Many people think my e90 drives smoother than most brand new cars (it is smoother than my x3 M40i for sure) Last edited by alpinec1984; 09-23-2021 at 02:35 PM.. |

That's funny. Small world. Dont run in to many tire guys. I like the look of the R1R and I can get them for free lol I'm looking to get the lightest wheel for a reasonable price so I'm planning on going 17x8.5 K1's on a 245 R1R. I think it will look great and dropping 32 lbs of rotating mass never hurt anyone. |

Interesting thread, I'm in the middle of a wagon build but swapping it to 335 rwd from 328 awd. The wagon already had Bilstein B6's on it which look relatively new. I'm going to put the springs from the 335 on and run the 328 rears springs and see how it sits. Good to see some stances with springs and 17's if I end up there while I save for coilovers.
OP your style 284's look much better in gunmetal than factory silver. I have a set on my wagon with nice pilot sport a/s which I damn near can't give away as I want 18's as well. I have a set of 19's that came on my donor 335 but two are cracked and I am stuck replacing them, to make a set of wheels I don't want, but the tires are new. First world problems. |
