Crank/No Start at pump while traveling

On my way back from a trip today I stopped to get diesel at a truck stop in West Virginia, When I went to start the car got cranking but no start. I tried a few more times, with no luck. Checked everything I could think of to see if I could find an issue, and then after about 10 minutes car started like nothing was wrong. Put about 400 miles on it till I got it to a family members house tonight, car drove fine and has no codes, shut it off and it started back up no problem. Ruled out bad diesel after it kept going, possibly stirred up something in the tank but that seems unlikely. Does anyone have any thoughts on what could have caused it? I want to check the pump relay when I get home but I got another 1000miles to go tomorrow and its got me worried, just not gonna shut the car off and hope for the best.

Update on this now, the car made it home without an issue. But a few days later It went into limp mode and was running rough. I was a little overdue for fuel filter so I changed that, primed it with ediabas, and it started right up. After driving it a little It started jerking slightly while accelerating and then started going into limp mode again however if I shut the car off and turn it back on it goes away and runs fine. Im getting two pending faults P1729 & P3160 on my tablet, unfortunately after my last windows update ISTA isn't working so I can only get P codes at the moment. I have been out of town so I have not had time to deal with this lately. I'm thinking injector issues maybe but I don't know.

Got ista working
At the time of the no start it logged
00483d DDE: Throttle actuator
006293 EKPS: Control current too high (fuel pump)?
Both only occurred once so Im at a loss as to why that happened

The recent two are
004bd4 DDE: Injector, cylinder 5, activation
004f6f High irregular rotation

Does anyone know if the the tranny code could be related to the injector?

It it is injector activation and high irregular rotation. It is definitely that injector. Piezo is dead. Check resistance and you will see it is out of spec. Spec is 182kOhm +/-10

Let me guess. X5 right? If so, then please check your cowl partitions or you will have more dead injectors.

are you gonna do injector yourself? I will be changing valve cover gasket so I will need to remove them too, but I have no special tool for it.

anyhow, it seems that in most of the cases cleaning of injectors help, whether physical to scrub off dirt from outside and some other, such as bathing them in ultrasonic cleaner that is supposedly not that expensive ...

Yea I finally got around to swapping it tonight, I bought an injector puller from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It appears to be out of stock right now though. It's not hard to make one if you can't find one in stock.

The cowls on the x5 can crack and leak, the noise dampening foam will hold moisture and can cause injectors 5&6 to fail.

Got the new injector in tonight, the #5 was indeed shorted out and was fairly corroded. I've got a 335d, not an x5 so I'm going to do some investigating to see if I can find out how I got water on it. Ista is just giving me a blank page after I click "ABL Injector quality compensation" so I cant code the new one in, If anyone knows the fix for that please let me know. I'm probably just gonna take it to the local shop in the morning and have them code it quick.
