I used this thread to buy my motor mounts. Got the IS mount for one side and the regular 335i for the other side. I also replaced my manual transmission mounts with the E46 M3 mounts which are a straight swap over. The car feels nice and stable even though my shocks/struts need replacing. Bought the Bilstein B4 sports but I haven't had time to install them yet.

The IS mount has been a known upgrade from the moment the IS was released with plenty of info on how its a great upgrade. .
I would actually like to see info a people what have installed performance orientated Engine mounts or a combo of the two.
I don't want a ton NVH but want all the slop to go away. I was thinking of doing a combo 335is and also BFI stg1 mount.

NVH wasn't bad to start, but right around 900-1100 RPM got real heavy, decided to check em out. Poly was pouring out of them. Definitely wouldn't waste the money on em

AD Engineering - Engine Mount Really!? This is the first time I have heard of this, sounds like a serious failure. Did you contact them are they replacing the mount?

It was a serious failure of the mount. Luckily it was caught before anything else happened. After looking at how it failed, I decided against another set for risk of it happening again. I still want some upgraded mounts though so I'm weighing the options.

Had em on my phone, and I've since gotten a new one but I should still have them somewhere. Let me see if I can find em when I get home.

These new ad mounts look pretty sweet!! Just wondering - if these were to fail, are they designed to fail in a manner that would prevent the ps pulley from hitting the subframe, like what would happen with the original stock mounts?

Just got a message from Andy a little bit earlier. The mounts are now up on his site.

How difficult is this job? My cars at 98k miles n im replacing a bunch of stuff just for maintance. Mine is an october 2006 build. So it will be bad if the power steering pulley hits the subframe? Lol

I'd like to hear who the first person is to get these AD engine mounts installed.
-How many lbs ft of tq did you use? Same as stock? -Any NVH over the stock mounts?

Good question. If the mount fails, youd most likely have contact with the subframe. It would depend on what the pulley to subframe gap is compared to the bushing to base gap is on the mount...assuming the bolt was the failure point.

Where is the motor mount located? Also, what are the symptoms of a failing/failed motor mount?
I'm trying to diagnose a pretty violent vibration that mainly happens at idle. Can be felt through the driver side door panel and center console. TIA

Symptoms include ps pulley smacking subframe, causing your belt to shred and get eating through front seal and engine go boom. Maybe some vibration or maybe some exceeding "drivetrain slop" prior to that.

I have the akg mounts. They have some nvh at idle and on initial drive, but smooth as butter when driving. With all the extra power these things let me shift and keep me into the power beautifully.
There is come compromise from the oem mounts. But it's needed seeing I'm in the 700/700 hp/tq. |
