Intake options?

I know there are pretty much no gains whatsoever with intakes on the N52, but I'm looking to get one. I pretty much just want one so the car sounds better and makes it more fun to drive. I've been looking at the Injen intake. Are there any losses with this intake like there is with the AFE? I've heard bad things about the AFE. What else is there under $500?

Thanks guys

Everytime one of these threads appears, I want to choke the OP. You've been here for a while, so you know better.

AFE Stage 2 SI makes the most power of any intake, otherwise you can just go with Dinan for cheaper (and likely equal power)

There is, nor should there be any more debate on this subject. The amount of power gained doesn't really justify the cost in comparison to a tune, intake manifold or headers.

You're welcome.

I have the AFE Stage2Si and it has given me 0 problems. The issues with AFE intakes are with the stage 1 kits that are open air and seem to heat soak the engine. Get the sealed box like I have and its pretty nice. Slightly improved throttle response, more noise from the engine bay, and MPG seems to have improved some. I'm running it with the oiled filter, not a single issue with my MAF sensor. Lots of people here like the Euro intake box because its OEM and gives easier access to the filter element unlike the US version of it.

I figure I should let them know to search next time, but while I'm posting, I might as well answer their question.

I have an Injen i removed from my 128i. You're welcome to have it for $40. Heat shield could be sanded and repainted and the filter could use a good cleaning(or replacement) but everything about it is functional and ready to go. Includes the instructions for install as well as for cleaning the filter.

I honestly think that the 3stageIM, tune and K&N in OEM intake made the car louder. You can hear the DISA stages opening. The tune with the extra timing gave the car a more throaty sound. Maybe add one of those silicone throttlebody elbows which will have alittle more sound resonance too.

The added benefit is alot more low end TQ and fun!

I know it is hell-ish expensive, but BMW's own performance intake is not mentioned.

My car came supplied with the Euro intake, so perfectly content with that to be honest. The induction noise is decent, if anything I think the exhaust could be a bit less quiet. Then again, I had the exhaust flap disabled for a few weeks and was tired of the extra noise very quickly.

I'm partial to the Eurobox because I think it makes the engine bay look cleaner and it makes filter changes incredibly simple.
