How much should I expect my insurance to jump if I buy a 2011 335i and ditch my current 96 Mustang? I'm single and over 25 with no tickets and no accidents within the past 10 years, and the 335i has more modern safety features (airbags, alarm, etc) than the 96 Mustang. I currently pay $88/month for $250/$500 Comp/Coll deductibles respectively through AAA Northern Cali, which provides about the best service I've experienced.

I dont live in a large Metro area. We live in Middle Ga in essentially a military town. Geico is by far the cheapest we have had. The discounts we have safe driving, new car, anti brakes, driving course, and fed employee.

Damn, Geico has been the cheapest for me by approximately $600 every 6 months. I'm 21 about to be 22 in three months.......2 accidents on record but were in 2008 and 2009 respectively...stupid insurance companies screwing me.

This thread makes no sense. Its impossible to compare one quoted amount with another unless you know the details of the policy and the associated driving record. Many have claimed "full coverage" but that doesn't mean anything.

Woah there buddy, the point wasn't to compare one quoted amount to another, the idea was just to see what companies were offereing the cheapest based on circumstances....calm down

The only way to know what is cheapest for YOU is to do the legwork of contacting all the various companies insurance companies for a quote. I do this every few years, though at this point my insurance is so low that I doubt any company is ever going to be much if any cheaper.
For disclosure - 43yo single male, clean driving record except for one minor at-fault accident two years ago. In Westbrook, Maine. Homeowner's insurance with same company. 500K\100K\300K Liability coverage, $500 deductible collision, $100 deductible comprehensive runs me $55/mo for my BMW, and $49/mo for my '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee from State Farm. That minor accident is dinging me for $13 every 6 months per car, it is good to be oldish. The Jeep was actually slightly MORE to insure than the BMW until I had them change the usage to less than 7500 miles a year. Insurance companies can be pretty odd sometimes - I had great prices from GIECO for many years until I bought a brand-new VW Golf TDi (90hp diesel!) back in '01. GEICO quoted $1600/yr for that car, State Farm wanted $750. Been with them ever since.

Geico, Be very carefull!!!
I had geico with no accidents then gf back into car reported to geico the sent a check then would not re-new policy. Few years later they kept sending me offers so i sign on again rock broke windshield I reported to geico then drop them. Geico agent kept calling me so I explain to them what happen he said that they do not do that any more, i LOL and hung up. Basically he admitted to that policy of dropping ppl who file a claim.

I had to renew my insurance as well this month. After shopping around I found that the big name companies were giving me ridiculous quotes for six month premiums...
State Farm - ~$1900 Allstate - ~$1600 Nationwide - ~$1100 I'm 20 with a squeaky clean driving record. All of these quotes were for the exact same full coverage, including good student discount, etc. I have no idea why there was such a variance in price. I said effffffffff that and stayed on my parents policy at Kentucky Farm Bureau for a six month premium of $530. lol

I don't have a clue how we lucked into this but my partner and I pay just under $100 per month for our 128i, X1 sdrive 28i, and MINI Cooper S from Allstate through esurance. I'm 30 and he's 31, both have spotless driving records. We just called them on a whim and they offered us that premium with a $250 deductible. Might want to get in touch with them.

It very hard to compare peoples rates, today there are so many factors that roll into a rate. I pay little over $600 a year with low deductible and high limits. But I also have multiply cars and house and a umbrella policy. I get all kinds of discounts because of the things I have insured with State Farm. I can tell you I do shop once in awhile, and when you take everything I insure together no one beats State Farm. Some companies give better rated to different classes of people. State farm may be higher for younger drivers with no assets. when I was wronger I had a different company, I think it was USAA but at some point State beat them all and I have been with them for 20 yrs now.
Again SF rewards you the longer you stay with them and the more things you cover with them. Plus you get a real agent to talk to who usually has a local office to you. Last edited by Maestro; 01-28-2013 at 09:27 AM.. |

34YO Male, married in Chicago suburbs. No recent tickets or accidents, last claim was a theft recovery 10 years ago. Trading up from my 2000 323i to the 2011 335d boosted my rates from $34/mo to $41/mo with full coverage, legal limits of everything, and $500 deductible, but no rental reimbursement.
Been with State Farm Mutual for around 15 years, I don't even bother price shopping anymore, because it's a waste of time. I do chuckle when I get the postcards promising to save me hundreds of dollars a year--are they going to PAY ME to take a policy? |

Thanks to this thread, I just went from $240/month with AAA to $170/month with Geico... that's a ridiculous change! And they offer more protection and services FARRR beyond AAA.

After being with State Farm for over 25+ years I switched to Geico this past week. My 6 month car insurance premium went from $545 with State Farm to $274 with Geico. I'm 44, single, accident-free, clean driving record. Got a quote from Liberty Mutual as well but they quoted the same price that I had with State Farm.
Not sure how Geico can be that much cheaper, but I'm not complaining! Searched the forums here and found many that seem to be happy with Geico.

$860/6 months with progressive.
One accident, one ticket. $500 deductible on everything 300K/100K/300K coverage. Single 24 y/o I just got done shopping around and the next cheapest was esurance at $925.
