Hey guys,

I'm expecting my first child in March. I have tons of emotions going on right now. I'm scared, so excited, nervous, anxious, worried, but most of all extremely happy.

A little background, I'm 3 yrs married, have a home, two cars (e92 335i and a B8 A4 Avant, wife's car), both in early 30's, both have good jobs and enjoying the DINK life, for now.

Just wondering if any experienced fathers out there can give me any tips, words of wisdom, advise, barriers or road blocks to watch for. Also, what are your great moments with your kids. What childhood life events/milestones should I cherish or take in? what were your worth while sacrifices? what weren't? How do you measure success in raising your child?

I am not a father, but I just wanted to say... Discipline them and discipline them well, most kids these days are douchebag pieces of scum. Also, if you have a girl, please for the love of god don't let her turn into a whore. Don't spoil them either.

These things should be obvious, but apparently it is not, as the majority of the parents in the US are deadbeats.

He lives in Cali...only way he could get stuck paying alimony (for life) is if this happened after the 10 year mark of marriage.

This also means, she could cheat on you after 10 years with another guy, divorce you and still get your alimony + child support (for life).

Greatest moments? All of them! Well, the mudbutt moments aren't too fun but any time I spend with my little girl is the best feeling.
As for the rest, I don't think anybody can really answer that for you.
The best advice I can give you is to figure it out yourself. The fact that you care enough to think about being a good dad and ask for advice means you'll do fine.

Oh, start stocking up on diapers ahead of time. And buy like 10 each of all the small stuff (bottles, washcloths, etc.). And buy stock in baby wipes.

my brother just had a child two weeks ago with his wife. It seems like a bitch, i wouldn't want to do it especially in today's times. Just keep your child safe, secure and pray he or she has good people around him whether it be friends or family.

Teach the value of money
Instill good morals and integrity
Don't let your relationship with your wife become less important. Schedule date nights, have a babysitter watch the little one, make time for yourselves.

Well, first off, congrats Tri . I'm not a father, but there are some things I've experienced first hand that you need to teach your kid. Don't spoil your kid and give your kid chores as soon as you can. It sounds like something simple, but most parents I know spoil the hell out of their kids, buy them everything they want and don't make them do anything around the house. My sister is one of those kids and she's just spoiled to hell. Getting her to just throw out the trash becomes a shouting match between my parents and her. Had my parents actually disciplined her and made her do things around the house like I did when I was a kid, she wouldn't be like that.

Make sure ya teach your kid the value of money too. Again, something people I know aren't doing or have not done. Most of my friends (18-21) are in credit card debt because their parents had a "I'm not going to teach my kid anything about money." Debt comes cheap. Getting out of it, doesn't.

Teach your kid how to respect people and their belongings too. I'm getting sick and tired of seeing 16 year old kids calling every one they see out on the street a douchebag or cursing them out. While we're on the subject of respect, objects need to be respected too. The next time I see a kid riding his bike in circles and doing "tricks" around my car, I'm taking the damn bike and throwing it in my trunk without any warning. That will teach him/her. And if it doesn't fit in the trunk, I'll take that thing apart to make it fit.

Taking care of a kid can be quite a task too. Like I said before, I don't have kids, but I've done my fair share of taking care of kids and it's a blast. They will always cheer you up. Have fun .

Get a hot young nanny. That way you don't have to help parent, and when your wife loses interest in you and lavishes the newborn with all her affection, you can hit on the help.

If you can't afford a live in nanny, consider buying a crib, putting it in front of the tv and looking at a lot of internet porn.

As for success, if its a boy, if you can keep him out of jail and through college, you win. If its a girl, if you can keep her from getting pregnant before she graduates college, again you win.

In all seriousness though, just spend time with the kids, teach them as much as you can, and love them for who they are.

I've got two daughters, but I'm too tired and/or lazy right now to lavish a lot of fatherly advice. I can share this bit of wisdom however....

If you have a boy, you have one penis to worry about. (Where he puts it and how much trouble it will cause.)
If you have a girl, you have to worry about ALL of them!
