I was given link to a BMW Standard Tools.7z file with 134 MB or so. But WebRoot took out Dr. Gini and FindECU saying they were Malware.

What should I do? Is it normal? False positive?

I am not having any trouble with the Bimmergeeks download .
I don't think it's even compressed for standard tools.

I have Norton 360 it hasn't said anything about being files being bad.
I would bet false positive.

Those were not included in the downloads in my original post.

I see. The link was from somewhere else. I'll ignore the lack of those files then.

Nothing else was noted as problematic.

Hello,

I am getting this error when trying to register the mscomctl.ocx

I followed the instructions and its in the syswow64 folder. Let me know what I can do to rectify this issue.

Are you using the admin login when you install an register this?
If you are using windows 10 then the command prompt is now
called the Power shell. Right click on start the two versions will appeat
admin and non admin.

Check to see if that file is actually in the folder.
remove replace and re register with the admin login.

also check the other two .ocx files provided with the install.

It worked! Had to put those ocx files in the system32.

I did not know about the powershell. Never knew it was ever there.

Question...These install files or program wont directly affect ISTA-D correct?

No, ISTA/D is a self-contained install.

Could have also register those files by right clicking on BMW Coding Tool and running as admin.

How does NCS work? When I tried to load the profile, it doesn't show the E90.

Ncs doesn't work unless its plugged in an you go through some initial steps
to read the cars VO(programming files by module).

You have to read the profile before (which makes a profile for the whole car ) before you can program a module.

diagnostic manual ista/inpa
https://bimmerprofs.com/diagnostics-inpa-part-1/
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...xo19teM9vkTF-C
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-P-actually-do
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...lkXEhlQYy4i9Nb

https://ncs-expert.com/how-to-actual...ing-ncs-expert

The above is one way to do it but most people don't use ncs dummy to change options on
the trace file before the change options.
They just rename the trace file to a man file and use something like note to edit the parameters,
Be sure to keep copys of your master file and the before and after edits on the smaller files.

There are a bunch of tutorials if you google e90 ncsexpert programming.

While ista D and the Standard tools suite play together they share some of the same
files the Daten Files . If you got Ista D and Standard tools from different places then
there is possibility the Datens may not be synced up.
That is why the Bimmergeeks download is preferred as a known quantity.

Firstly...thanks very much for this. Greatly appreciated 👍🏻
I have gone right through the setup..and I can connect to the car.
A lot of what I see is still in German.
Did I do something wrong?
I have a 2007 E70 3.0

All version's of Inpa and the standard tools programs
have some German in them.
There was an attempt here to fix that there is a thread
on it . It never was completed.(as far as I know)
If you are just interested in diagnostics and maintenance
procedures set up ista D .
Ista D is well worth it everything is in English it has guided
troubleshooting procedures , a searchable database.
Schematic's Part No's all the stuff you would get with a repair
manual.
For coding you will have to deal with a little german. Its not that bad.

Thanks mate.
Is there a way of editing that?
Can I access the source code and do some translations?
Happy to do so if it means I can help others.

English

https://www.e90post.com/forums/searc...rchid=63611454

The above advanced search contains the collected knowledge and
some attempts to do this.

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...hlight=English

Search = advanced search for English at this sub forum.
As you can see the subject has come up many times.

Bimmergeeks did the most work on it. You can buy there phone app if you are content with
canned programming only . They have covered it better than anyone else.

Hallo. I seek your advice on INPA…Engine Menu for N55
I seem to have a little challenge here- I wanted to check a car of my friend…E90 with N55 engine; the connection to car works…Inpa/cable are able to read the car via Functional jobs Menu….BUT when I go through an Engine Menu and select MEVD17xx ECU for N55 I am getting Error mesage (reading od D_Motor group…IFH 0019….see attached picture). That Error message comes even with cable not connected
I already did check Inpa and Ediabas and the necessary IPO and PRG files seem to be in place….see screens

Also…when I go to any other Engine type through the menu it works…so only initialization of MEVD17/N55 is the problem

Can you kindly advice what else shall be checked / adjusted in order to get this working

Thank you

Sorry, that's not my install from the original post. Try the download/instructions from post #1 and see if that works for you.

I'm finally working on updating the instructions to tidy up the minor typos and original errors. Should be done Monday/Tuesday of next week. Also changing it that you no longer have to delete the "_64" at the end of the NCSEXPER folder since it seems most of everyone is using Windows 10, and it's rare that you have a 32 bit Windows 10.
