The black D-can cable has the same exact guts as the clear one. They have the same pin configurations, so yes you can remove bridge connection from 7 and 8

Thanks for the response. If it is plugged in as is does it just not work or will it hurt something?

Lol. It won't mess anything up if you plug it in with the wrong pin configuration. All it would do is not allow you to have communication with the application you are using. It will give you a read error code or in NCS give you a faulty vin which in essence is it not reading the module

Thanks. They included software (SSS Progman, INPA 5.02 and Ediabas 6.4.7) with the cable. Is there any difference in the software from 2007 to 2008?

Great. I'll clip the solder bridge, install the software and give it a shot.

For your car pin 7 and 8 cannot be bridge. Take out that connection and use NCSexpert to code and INPA or DIS to diagnose vehicle

OK. Any recommendations for links or instructions on how to set this all up on my i5 Intel computer running Windows 7 (64bit) since I ran into issues trying to load it with the original instructions.

Program will be stopped!

my car: e91, 320d 163hp.
Engine: M47/T2 - 2,00l (120kW)
Production date: 02.05.2006

inpa 5.0.2 on XP 32bit clear install on host machine (not a virtual one)
same laptop with the same obd cable read without problem e46 320i :

no problems to read the engine and other modules

my cable is like the white one that has been modified on the begining of the post.

I modify my cable with button to bridge 7 and 8 pin. The result of my error is same like bridged or not...

Please give me some advice.

Some cables regardless if you bridge it or not will not work. A lot of cables especially the bargain priced cheap ones people buy on eBay don't work. Get one that works from Onestopelectronics and you will save a lot of headaches. People who gamble and buy these cables are penny smart, dollar stupid.

And why don't those buggers give you all the software too?

Was considering getting a cable + S/W package like this, but would have loved to get it from them.

Do you have the clear cable or black one from 1 stop? If it's clear, what's the color of the PC board?

YOu cable is not the correct cable I would believe and the drivers are not the correct ones.

SWID reader doesnt work on your car because you have CCC headunit and two even if you have CIC headunit it will not work as you need ICOM to read and retrieve the 1B file. Only way Dcan works with SWID reader is if the unit has a cic emulator on it and its a retrofit unit...

My bet is the cable is NOT compatible..

If you have one of those cables you maybe can try this out but I dont know if it for sure works
