Is Stage 2 LPFP any better with pump gas?

Thats a real bummer....I've got an appointment next week to get my car in to have this looked at, but I assumed the dealers scanners would pick up shadow codes....guess I'm gonna cancel that...

But if your rail pressure holds strong then I wouldn't think a new lpfp would do much in your case... |

As I have been continuing to look into remedying my fuel issue I was able to find something new that may be of interest to some of those who have been experiencing long cranks and shadow codes. Today I used BMW's ISTA software to run a few fuel checks and see if the pressures were meeting their correct values. During the test, the pressures are checked after the LPFP in the tank and after the HPFP on the fuel rail. The HPFP was meeting each pressure test (50, 80, 100 bar) and came back with no faults, but during the test ISTA caught an issue with the low pressure system saying "a leak was detected during the low pressure test". In the ISTA software, underneath this statement it says "If there is a customer complaint that the start duration is too long, replace the electric fuel pump". Considering I cannot smell or see fuel the leak must be within the pump itself.
Unfortunately considering the LPFP is not covered under warranty like the HPFP, I might just wait this out to see if it fails completely. Though, this could remedy the symptoms many of us are experiencing.

Its covered under the 70k extended warranty. BMW is also willing to good will a majority of it outside of 70k.

I'm not sure about your particular car, but for mine it is. I even had our warranty manager go over the percentages of BMW NA's goodwill coverage % intervals over 70k miles.

I have been reading this thread with interest and i too see this shadow code but have never had long cranks. My HPFP is logging 2200 PSI during WOT across all RPM ranges. (so very healthy numbers)
I really dont think that this shadow code means anything.. for all that we know every single car is throwing this code at some point... I dont think the code alone means you have a HPFP issue.. Its hard for me to believe because my car runs great.. |

Thats exactly it.. The best indicator of HPFP performance is the rail pressure... If your rail pressure is good then the pump is doing its job.. So people should not just replace the pump because of this code.. its simply not enough information.

I took it to the dealer, told them I had long cranks and those two codes, and that I thought my fuel pump might be going out. They performed a "fuel system test" and concluded that my HPFP was defective and suggested replacement. I've had the car back for a week, long cranks are gone and codes haven't returned. |

Soooo I'm getting this code too, but only when I go WOT. This means I need a new HPFP? I'm the second owner of the car and I just hit 90k is this something BWM will cover or should I just bite the bullet and put one in myself?

I was in the same boat as you until last week when I replaced all my injectors. No more long cranks or slight misfires at idle.

Also in the same boat. 2011 e90 mhd 1+ and had these shadow codes turn up the other day. My car runs great no long cranks or stutters at high rpm, my car has 64k on it so wondering if I should take it to the dealer and see what they can do under warranty or just leave it.

I had stated getting the shadow codes along with the 2BEF in Dec. Then, in June, I started to get occasional long starts after sitting overnight which got more frequent to the point it was almost every morning.
I changed my HPFP two weeks ago and both the long starts and codes haven't returned. |

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...56#13537620946 Not under any warranty from BMW, but I have Maxcare from Carmax, which covered it completely. ~$2100 for the pump, sensor, and labor.
