picked up a higher mileage 335 a couple months back. been putting money into it to make sure everything is solid. got the car back after getting some minor repairs done, and there's a new noise coming from under the hood. sounds like it's coming from under the intake/oil filter housing. this is my first n54 powered vehicle, and im just wondering if anyone has dealt with this sound before. no other symptoms other than the sound. no codes, no noticeable loss of power, etc. sound came and went yesterday on my drive to and from work. haven't driven it since.
alright so im not able to upload the video (not showing up in attachments) but if any of you are willing to help, i can email you the video or dm it to you via instagram, twitter, or facebook.

If the noise started right after you had it in for repairs....why don't you call the shop back and see what they say?

Also.....if you are having to pay someone to repair the car, you are going to really hate owning a 335i with the N54 in it. Something is always acting up or breaking.... hopefully you have a backup car?

If it's a ticking sound, it's most likely the purge valve. It lives in that area and is known to make noise on and off. It's no big deal.

Can you roughly describe what it sounds like?
Does it happen when stopped or in motion?
Any mods done to the car? 6mt or auto?

Just had one going off on my friends car ticking non stop was actually pretty loud thought it was coming from the motor at first. Noise is most noticeable if you listen by the driver side wheel well Unplugged and replugged the connector and it disappeared. U can also feel it clicking repeatedly should it fail in this fashion

FCP calls it a "fuel tank breather". I've always heard it called an Evap valve.

I totally hear you!

Thank god I have an honest/awesome mechanic who is reasonable for parts and labor prices especially in the NNJ area! I have probably changed every part that fails on N54 and then some!

I understand but I meant I have never heard that click or make any noise.

Ah, ok. Yours must be working then. When they start clicking all the time...that's when they are going bad. Mine does sometimes when I start the car..then goes away if I blip the gas.

I know how they click and had replaced many just not on n54, and after a decade of ownership and working on other n54 haven’t heard it click.

Mine clicks pretty much all the time at idle, especially in the colder weather. Never given me an error code or had any issues with it :

Spot on. Gets much less frequent once fully warmed.
