Garage List
Mahle is the OEM. Vaico is an aftermarket company but maybe they rebox Mahles?

FWIW to anyone considering not buying OEM.

I recently tried a Rein Disa ELM0085. Unfortunately the valve failed in the first 30 days. For whatever reason the flap rotated beyond the 90 deg stop/closed position, I think it went 180 deg too far (tearing the gaskets along the way). I didn't notice a major issue with performance but the Disa was making noise as the servo was stuck.

So much for trying to save $125, bought from RockAuto. Luckily I was able to return it for full warranty refund.

Say NEIN to Rein!

Vaico is a good supplier though, much better quality.

I got a Vaico replacement for the small valve in Aug and its now throwing the code and can hear the motor repeatably tryung after engine shutdown.
For the big one (codes started about 2 mo after small was replaced), I went with a Rein due to somewhat reputable brand and cheap price.

I bought the car (07 Z4 3.0si) about a year ago and both disas I pulled were aftermarket and the motors couldn't open the valve. The small was a Mahle and the big was Vaico, so Vaico is 0 for 2 for me.

I'm thinking I should have just sucked it up and spent the $600 for BMW ones from FCP ... they don't sell anything but BMW and with their lifetime warranty, I think I now understand why.they don't carry the aftermarket ones.

My Rein part was doing the same thing your Vaico did. I could hear the servo (Errrrrrh)trying to turn for 2-3 minutes after the car was off.

I completely agree, the BMW OEM are much more expensive but at least with FCP's warranty you're never paying for it again! The Mahle part you mentioned was probably OEM BMW though. I've never seen Mahle sell the Disa outside the BMW brand.

Yes, Mahle was the OE for the DISAs.
