Question AUX and USB Not Working?

Hey guys,

I picked up my 2007 328i Coupe just over a week ago, and the Auxiliary port and USB do not seem to work. When I plug in the auxiliary cord, it recognizes that something is plugged in, except nothing will play. So I tried loading music onto a USB drive and when I plug it in it says that is loading, then after 30 seconds or so it just says 'error'. The previous owner assured me that they were working the last time he used them, so I am wondering if they are not working because I am not using the special BMW cord that comes with the car?

Has anyone else had issues with the Auxiliary and USB in their car? Or has anyone found a way to solve this issue? Any information or help would be greatly appreciated!

You did not say if you had idrive or pro radio .

You did not say if you had idrive or pro radio .
In both the case of aux and usb those you have to select the
option for it to be active.
Did you get the manuals for the radio and or idrive , they are separate
from the main manual.
If it has the ipod setup then you need the y cable and it may not play
music dircet. I think you need to have the seller demonstrate you it
works.
Does your usb stick work in other devices?

Sorry, I do not have the iDrive in my car. I have looked through the manual, and I am doing everything as demonstrated in the manual, but I am still having no luck. And yes, the USB stick also works on my computer since that is how I loaded some music onto it. So it definitely isn't an issue with the USB stick as far as I can tell!

I dont know about the OEM player but aftermarket head units can be selective regarding USB sticks. Tried connecting your phone using USB? Or just a different AUX cord?

I've now tried to connect my iPod through the USB port and it recognizes that there is an iPod connected, but when I push the button, it will change over to USB for a few seconds and then flip back to the radio... Not sure what is going on! Maybe I need the BMW specific cord?

Do you have the 6fl option listed in your option list?

Do you have the 6fl option listed in your option list?
Some of the early setups had ipod with a y cable but
no actual usb direct I think.
Do a check with a vin decoder to see if you have 6fl.

CTuna, do you know of any good decoders online? I typically use www.decodethis.com but I don't believe it would be in depth enough to tell me if I have 6fl or not... Which site would you recommend?

Thank you for listing the de-coders! I just checked and my car has the 6fl option ("6FL USB-/AUDIO INTERFACE"). So not sure where to go from here! I tried using the BMW specific cord as well when connecting an iPod and I still didn't have any luck...

what part of AB are you in?

that's definitely weird - i know some older systems need the y cable, I have 6fl in my 09 and I don't nee a y cable for ipod, I just plug it in with the apple cable and it works. I also can just plug in aux or usb drives and it works.

Make sure your USB drive is in FAT32 format not NTFS

I'm up in Cold Lake (waaaaay north! Haha) But when I connect the iPod, it recognizes that it is connected to something since it says "connected to accessory", and when I hit the iPod button on the media player it will switch to that mode for about 5 seconds before automatically switching back to the radio... Pretty frustrating since I am typically pretty good with situations like this, but this one has me in a bind!

I was really hoping that this wouldn't be the case... I'll have to look around for a second hand one to try and get a better price! Is there any way you can check the MULF yourself without taking it into a dealer?

Alright, so to be clear... I need to be looking for a MULF 2 Module in order to use my USB and Auxiliary input? Any one will work with my 2007 328i E92?

Why do things always have to be so complicated.... Does a dealer need to run a diagnostics test to determine whether or not the MULF is shot? Or is there a DIY to test it yourself?
