MHD failing
This is my first post on the forums so I am sorry if it is not in the correct spot.
Im in serious need of help. I tried to tune my e90 with MHD and the programming failed. Currently the vehicle does not run because of the failed attempt. I have tried to tune with a BimmerGeeks cable as well as the MHD wifi adaptor. neither helped. Currently I am using the MHD adaptor S21 ultra 25 amp charger new battery double click the start button without starting vehicle phone in airplane mode Situation When ever I try and either flash back to stock or stage 2 I click long write and then MHD immediately displays unable to write ECU. This has been going on for 4 days so far. I have read through all the forums. I have watched every video. I am at a total loss as to what i should do. Did i destroy my ECU? what else can i do? What am I doing wrong. |

Falconey,
Thank you for the response. I will be exchanging the cable. Since I did not know how long it would take to exchange I went ahead and purchased the MHD wifi adaptor. Is it possible that the WiFi adaptor is inoperative as well? I can connect with the adaptor. |

For clarity, are you flashing back to stock (stage 0) with MHD still enabled, or back to original ECU bin?

BDSM n54is,
I am not sure what original ECU bin means but I have tried to flash to stage 0 as well as back to stock without MHD installed. Edit, I have tried to program MHD with a different device with the same results. So far 2 phones have been used, MHD WiFi adaptor, k+DCAN cable, 2 otg adaptors, 2 different battery chargers. performed several battery disconnects. Last edited by N55life; 11-21-2021 at 07:29 PM.. |

Are you hooking the charger up at the battery or under the hood?
I had trouble under the hood that went away after hooking it up at the battery and letting it go to 100% before attempting another flash |

One other time I had failure during long write leaving my car unable to start like yours. I tried again and put my phone in the footwell next to the dongle and it worked. Might have been coincidence though

Ky0u,
When you had the failure on the long write did your dme stop communicating? So the very first attempt mhd erased files for about 10 minutes then failed. Ever since then the dme immediately fails. No percent just an immediate fail to write ecu. When i connected my Matco scantool today to see if there was any communication it could not read anything from the dme. It could read from every other module. I proceeded to then remove the dme relay and jumper pin 3 and 5. Same result no dme communication with the scantool. So power and ground to the dme have been checked. I checked the obd2 port for any pinfit concerns. Everything tested good. My concern now is that i ruined the dme. |

Thank you guys for the input. I just got a bimmergeeks expert cable in. Should I attempt a stock flash first? I disconnected the battery overnight so hopefully this works.

I just reattempted the flash back to stock with the expert cable. Same result no communication with the DME. At this point i see no other option besides a faulty dme.

Is it possible there is another tune installed? With the jb4 you have to get to map 0 before flashing with mhd. I just can't imagine the failed flash killing your dme.

Matamua,
The battery charger is connected directly to the battery. Its not connected to the terminals in the front of the car. Falconey, There is no chance of there ever being a jb4 being installed. Is it only with a jb4 previously installed that i have to flash to 0 for the first flash? I just got the dme back from precision ecu and everything operates correctly. Im going to give it about a week before i brick my dme again😅. What recommendations do you guys have for reattempting to flash mhd. Im not trying to go without a car again for 2 weeks. |

The owners manual says to charge the battery only from the terminals under the hood. That is the only place i charge while flashing.
