What is meant as "illegal modification" in HK+ extra police enforcement of speeding

I was reading singtao and saw in the news a couple of Audi TTs got busted for illegal racing at bride's pool rd. I don't know if any bimmers are involved, but the report mentioned that the police are looking for illegal modification of the vehicles. Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is meant as "illegal modification" in HK?

Also, the report mentioned that the police will be looking out for racing and speeding in the run-up to the Macau races. So watch out and avoid a heavy pedal until the Macau races are over!

dunno about illegal mods but a while back there was a news story about a Ferrari and some Porsches getting arrested for 'illegal racing' which was probably more like 'spirited driving'. dunno if that applies quite so much to Audi TT's though.

Why don't they just ban performance parts from entering hk and close down all tunning shops if they consider it illegal?
Another way of making money!

any modification is illegal....that's why you have to leave your car at BMWHK for at least 3 weeks for gov inspection/approval after any mod in suspension, intake, brake, etc......

If they really enforce, how many of us can still sleep well at night?

By law, you have to do the same for whatever you've mod! BMWHK does what they need to comply the regulation so they take no liability for any mod in case of any accident

I guess it comes down to a question of enforcement. Many cars on the road in HK are modded, be it those cheap Japanese nissans or the more expensive German cars. If the police were to clam down strictly, most of us won't be able to drive much. But there is certain leeway with the time when there is sometimes less or more enforcement. Generally, my observation is that the police will pay more attention to speeding and other traffic offences. other times they will have more focus on it, like now in the run-up to the Macau WTCC races. The public association of modded cars with illegal street racing is the bigger problem I think.

That's why I said it all depends on your luck. For example window tints are illegal in HK and the majority of tinted cars would not be passed if the corps tried hard to inspect all the tinted cars. But why were only some of them charged?

The corp only shooted at me (on slow lane) instead of the other HK-China cars (Alphard,Elgrand,S-Class,ML-Class),which were all overtaking me. I was driving my black horse at 81-84km/h. The corp was just when I passed him slowly and finally everyone could continue their ways to Shatin/Kowloon non-stop.

Back to the old news, luckily I left 5 mins earlier than my fds after the TT Club BBQ meeting, otherwise my TT wouldn't be well covered under my garage during my upcoming 2 weeks Europe trip.

Now I would have to drive safe with any cars until all pts coming back. My downpipe and FMIC plans would be further postponed as well.

mod plan and recovering your point level are not strictly related, and they can be happening in parallel...

It's funny, I notice those "one sick" minivans like those cross-border Alphard and Elgrand are usually the most aggressive and inconsiderate drivers on the road, yet the police never bother to catch them, but no, they have to target us for "easy kill". Just because those minivans are professional drivers that make a living dosen't mean they can break traffic laws at will. That's selective enforcement and prosecution on the part of the police. That's blatant discrimination!

That was for bloody speeding only!! first time should be 3months + 3point course.....
Wanted to appeal but lawyer said told me not too, as we were lucky that it was only a heavy fine + 1year instead of street racing + jail time....
Damn bad timing!!!!

BTW is there a E93 with AY 39(something) here?

How fast were you speeding? Did it involve other aggravating factors? Were you busted for DUI as well? Seems a bit heavy for a speeding offence only (unless it's extreme speeding).
