If its just under the car, are the pressure wand washes by you open? I would just blast under the car or my detailer has a pressure washer with the setting set low (might be a special washer) such that the paint is not harmed. Maybe wand under the car?

This is the real answer. One of the few things I don't own. It's on the list after the plasma cutter. I do a bit of fab work and that takes precedence over cleaning for me. I hope you understand.

Is there anything wrong with using microfiber sponges and towels that you don't like?

There is nothing wrong with doing things right, and taking pride in their work.

I wash it myself at a washbay. The water is heated real nice and warm, I fill a bucket with the soapy water and wipe away, follwed by a nice heated rinse. If it's below 32, if I am fast enough I can get half my car dry before the water droplets or my chamois turn to ice.

what do you mean ? just a regular good car wash.....sure it can do some damage over time, but it sure is better then my local touchless wash that doesnt wash anything even in summer. currently i have convertible and dont feel safe running it through car wash, i hand wash it at the same location, but this can all change in winter....maybe i will try running it though the wash when its very cold.... My S2000 has never seen carwash before. previous owner only hand washed it at home.

Do you only take it through because they do?
I see M3s, Lexus, caddy, porsche and some other nice cars go through one here.

no not at all, that's not my reason for going.
it was my observation during the times of my washes.
i currently have a year subscription to the car wash i go to.
after my wash, the car comes out beautiful.
cost about $24 a month for unlimited premium washes.

Obviously pride of ownership is lacking. It is proven that touch car washes aren't good for the car's paint job. Not that you care.

Majority of people who care about their cars hand wash their car or take it to a car wash center that provides hand washing. Why do you think BMW dealers always hand was cars. There's a difference between being ignorant just plain stupid.

The s2k was hand-washed by the previous owner for a reason. You go to a car wash with brushes? Wow.

S2k was hand washed because owner had a house and garage. i live in a condo and park outside. i dont have time to hand wash a car once a week especially in winter. 335i always went though carwash, with s2k i go to self washes because of soft top.

Colorado doesn't use salt, fortunately. I just wait until a 40+ degree day that is sunny and it is fine to wash by hand. Fill up a couple buckets with warm water and I can wash the car in jeans and a t-shirt. CO winters are great

i think most people on here wont have their cars long enough to worry about the long term effects on the paint work, if they can afford a bmw then they an afford a frequent change, so the worrys is passed onto the next owner

That's really cheap. A car wash pass costs double that in Canada.
