2009 E92 335 I-Drive update
Hello members,
I recently picked up a 2009 E92 335i in July and for the couple months, the navigation was running on the 2009 map which was outdated, and the 3D Perspective option in my map setting was greyed out. I updated my maps to 2016 and the maps work perfectly fine, but it seems like the 3D perspective option is still greyed out. I thought updating the map would fix this issue. I tried calling BMW to talk to them about this, but they don't know what I am talking about which kind of makes me frustrated. Am I the only one who has this problem? Here is the picture below of what I mean when its greyed out! Let me know what you guys think! And any approach to fix this! |

you need to update firmware (underlying operating system).

I would try reloading the 2016-1 update (just reinsert the USB stick with the maps and follow the prompts). In some cases, you need to perform the update twice in order to re-enable the 3D views on the navigation system. |

At the dealership, they will most likely update all modules in your car and that can take some time (per some posts, it takes up to 16 hours). Price varies, but if you read some comments, people pay between 200 and 600. So, if you have multiple dealerships around you, shop for the best price. Some indy shops are able to do it and might charge less. They might be able to update individual modules - only update your idrive, while leaving everything else as is. Personally, I would rather do an update of the entire car. I am not familiar enough with process to suggest diy. If you do attempt to diy, make sure you have good power source, because if the update fails, you could possibly brick a module (or your car) - and that can be VERY expensive. In my opinion, the dealership might be the best way to do it. If they brick it, they will fix it. |
