Arrow ► ► ► UK8 - Lake District - Now with Pictures ◀ ◀ ◀

Hi All

Firstly, thank you to all the members who took the time to PM their thoughts and support of a Lake District UK8 meet. As I said in the previous discussion thread, we can't please everybody and I know some of the most Southern members will complain that the Lakes is too far away. However, I would like to say that many of the Northern members have traveled well over 250 miles without complaint just to get to one of the previous UK meets. The last UK7 meet, which was immensely successful, was quite far South for many of the Northern members, so this time round we are going to address the balance.

More importantly, Viv & I really would like the Scottish and Northern Irish members to join us for this meet. There haven't been many occasions where they have been able to join up for a social gathering like this and as a result there are many many members that we have yet to meet.

So, formally, the invitation to UK8 is now open to all members of E90Post.com.

  • The meet will be in the Lake District, probably in the region of Lake Windemere
  • There are three possible weekends, listed in the poll above
  • Please vote for the dates that you can make
  • Please also express your interest in attending this meet by copying/pasting the list below

1. Viv
2. Tone
3. Carl (DXB)
4. Ed (ed335d)
5. Will (willhollin)
6. Gav (RockIt)
7. Steve (SteveA)
8. Paul (-Paul-)
9. Matt (RagingKileak)
10. James (SerJames)

Just as a comparison, the Peak District is over 400 miles if you're coming from Aberdeen

Thank you for such a graphical display of your concerns. I take it you're unlikely to make UK8 then, especially since you've said that the South West Meet in Cheltenham is already too far for you to go

You think you got it bad, i dont know if i will make it moving house next month but for illustration purposes:

From: Stornoway, Western Isles
To: Windemere Golf Club, Cumbria
Distance: 443.4 miles (show in km)
Time: 13 hr 27 min

In comparison my last meet, (for my old car) i did the journey from inverness to stoke on trent, 930 miles round trip, dedication !!!

I drove to Windermere on Monday, Sunderland Tuesday and left last night at 5pm to drive home in Somerset. Will be going to Cheltenham this Saturday and then back to the office in Sunderland again next Monday. It's 330 miles to Sunderland and drive it every other week.

You bought a 'drivers' car to drive it

Want to try and make this meet, I am not going to influence the dates by voting as I will go with the flow but I would have thought the earlier the better (only because of weather!)

I have asked the missus what she wants to do date wise so I will post my vote shortly.

As Tony has already included me (rightly) in the list - I will definately be there, hopefully with a much improved car since the last Northern Meet.

I will be looking forward to meeting members far and wide, and although I know the focus of this is to get a lot of the more distant members into the fray, I think it would be a shame not to get to meet some of the people I often chat to on here, and some of the regular southern members.

Carlos etc - I really think you should try to come up if you can, dont forget that things like this often start with a gesture and if you guys come up, then it will make it a more compelling case for us lot to come down.

I for one wont forget those who make the effort.

I think a UK Meet in the Lake District is a fantastic idea I'm a big fan of the Lakes and have holidayed there every year for the past 6 years or so

Unfortunately the proposed dates cause me a problem as we are away in the New Forest on the first weekend and then in South Africa during the latter two weekends

I have no doubt it will be a fantastic meet with fantastic people. Every meet to date has been a blast. And this one should be the best ever with a real mix from all over the UK and Ireland. I'm just gutted it looks like I'm going to miss this one

Put me down too. I should be able to do either dates. Have always been wanting to drive around the Lakes.

I will do my best to attend in a BMW but can't promise it won't be from the land of the rising sun.

Yes very far from me own town. And as for Cheltenham, I'm unable to stay over, unlike UK7. So for one/half day is IMO not worth it.

Holy sheite bro! That is tremendous commitment. Makes me feel all warm I've bought one of your awesome products. Especially as you have a little nipper at home now.

Are there any roads in the Lakes which are not congested with old fuddy duddies doing the one in a month trip out in their Suzuki Jimmy's or Vauxhall Merivas (who all drive within a car length of the next clown)?

I certainly need to pull my finger out and not work so much (currently doing three jobs) and get to meet y'all (....my wife's American).

If I could demonstrate my commitment, then I might be able to tempt everyone out for a Midlands meet (Shropshire / Midlands .... going into Powys hard to resist), which is about half-way for everyone. There are some fantastic roads. I often see the cars EVO are testing driving out to North Wales passing by where I live, heading on to places like Claerwen Dam / Elan valley and the like (deserted open and well surfaced roads).

At some point I would like to say count me in..... apologies for wimping out so far.

err.... by the way Imran, what the heck are you trying to do suggesting you'll turn up in some rice burner? Now that's just plane antagonistic ... please not a Civic Type R Mugen ???? (what are you driving these days)? Guess those at the meet going to find out!

I went to France for a driving weekend with Pistonheads when my wife only had 3 weeks left till her due date. I promised her that if anything happened I would drive back immediately at warp speed
