Modify LHD downpipes to fit RHD - assistance needed
Howdy gang,
The wagon has been champing at the bit for some more sound (PE Mod was a great starting point!), and the neophyte behind the wheel has been wanting to run MHD Stage 2... So in that quest, I recently purchased some catted Riss Racing downpipes from XIX on the forum. Nice guy and easy transaction, let it be said. These need a little loving to make them fit rhd, so my question is: Is it just a case of moving the o2 sensor bung (thus o2 sensor) on the rear downpipe only? It appears just rotating it 20mm or so around the pipe (clockwise if laying under the car with no line of sight to the downpipe and sand falling in your eyes...) will allow this o2 sensor to clear the steering column. Do I need to have the pre-cat o2 sensor moved on the front dp also? If so, how much does it need moving? I only lined up the rear by the time I realised they would not fit, without any thought of the front... Is there anything else I should know before I attempt v2 of the install? Thanks in advance! Legend, thanks Brule.
I've taken a few photos of what I think approximates the position of each dp. I *think* I am seeing that the front dp o2 sensor comes out at almost the same angle, but I guess the distance between this and the steering column is greater... Based on the photos taken with a high-end 1982 camera, would you think the front dp o2 sensor needs to be moved? Also, from the next photo showing the rear dp, do you think the new location marked is correct? Thanks again, Craig |

Thanks Brule. I think I'll have to get back under there and try to visualise where the front needs to go. Possibly a combo of re-repositioning the rear o2 and moving front o2.
Good times. Yep, very hard to measure. There's not exactly acres of space down there. I do appreciate the help mate. I admit your thread Stock Turbo Best Way To Get Power has inspired me to get the car on e85 and have a bit of fun. I'll let you know how I get on. Craig |
