Have to keep looking for it. I have soo many

It lost a ton of power down low though so this would only be good for the track guys.

yeah that's what I would expect. not great for a DD/street car. Shed several hundred pounds and with a shorter final drive though, it would be great.

I've got an extra n54 intake manifold in the garage in excellent condition. Anyone interested in buying it??

Post them all, I have a dyno thread for a reason! I remember it being from Bimmer Performance, I think....

We want a dyno!

Seems to hold up ok at 8,000 rpm? A 10% increase is 7700 so its feasible..

having a power band from 6000-8000rpm that's above 250whp and peaking somewhere close to 7700-8000rpm ~270-280whp would be so nice...

Very S54 like. I just want a plug and play solution with no torque loss over a single stage manifold and a reliable redline.

Wait so, we could use their tune and take the tb out..and get gains? I know it's not that easy but that's what it sounds like..

I think you are asking for too much.. there will almost certainly be some amount of low end torque loss. thankfully, VANOS can mitigate some of that. the N52 actually has more adjustment range than the S54, but I think the S54 can still retard the intake cam further.

In the latest FB post, they said it was up to 231wtq, which is better than stock, but that's almost certainly at a higher RPM. This would be just fine though in a lighter car with shorter gearing. It didn't look like the facebook post had much more information, but this validates exactly what I had planned on doing with an N52 for my other car:

-No throttle (it's not really needed), no MAF (also not needed)
-Short runner intake manifold with large volume airbox (N54 probably works, but I think custom could be better)
-higher redline (at least 7500rpm)

If it can do 8,000rpm on stock internals, I want to take it a step further and mechanically retard the intake cam by 5-10 degrees. I bought a cam timing tool that I intend to modify for this purpose, but I need to pick up a motor (not doing this to my 330i DD) and I'll have to check piston/valve contact to be sure it won't destroy anything. Just retarding the cams could gain power with no bottom end sacrifice, fuel economy and emissions would suffer but it wouldn't be a DD.

So, assuming 260+whp isn't BS, it seems over 300 at the crank is feasible on basically stock internals. That's basically a stock N54, although the torque curve will certainly be shifted higher, that's fine. I like N/A responsiveness, and the N52's light weight is appealing.

I suppose since this isn't FI, the ceiling for the injectors is a little higher since the N52 seems to like to run north of 13:1 while N/A.

Keep in mind this is on MSV70. I'm not sure how much it translates into MSV80, which although similar, is a different architecture. it's not clear to me if it would work the same on a 328i. Maybe..

8k sounds sketchy. Pretty sure BMW kept the redline at 7k because they were eating up camshafts

Where did you read that? Theres no version of a stock n52 that bmw tuned to rev to 8k.

I would consider switching to solid lifters & shims but theres no reason it should eat camshafts.

They did a manual swap and raised redline according to the Facebook post

They definitely tested the engine pre-production engines at different RPMs. The valve springs are really stiff from valvetronic and spinning the camshaft faster put bigger loads on it where it contacts the lifters. Probably wont result in yielding or fracture immediately, but with that much cyclical loading, i wouldnt trust it over time

It doesnt say anything about testing it at 8k. It just says it becomes less efficient at high rpm.

Mike, i was talking about what SDemetris said. I saw that BPC it tuning it to that, but the dyno posted so far ends at the stock redline.
