Does anyone else think this doesn't look right? (Brand new HPF FMIC)
I recently purchased an HPF FMIC. Upon first inspection, I noticed a few things that kind of didn't look right or concerned me. I understand the black stuff on the intercooler is probably polishing compound, so I'm not too worried about that although I shouldn't be the one cleaning it. What I was concerned about are the fins. Some were bent back so they were flat on the edge, some were barely separated, and others were touching each other. I spotted this in a few areas. Is this normal? I wasn't sure if I received a bad one out of the batch.
I've talked to some people and they said it won't affect performance, and it's true that I'll probably do some damage to it myself, but I'm still a little . |

i dont see anything wrong with it. if it bothers you so much, get a flathead and carefully straighten them out.

Looks to me like a used unit...or one that was dropped or mishandled, causing all the trauma to the fins and such. My ETS unit arrived in perfect condition with protective packing over the core. If this is supposed to be a brand-new unit, I'd be contacting my vendor; if you bought it used, it is what it is.

It shouldn't affect performance. But that and those welds certainly do not speak well for the quality control. I bought a $150 eBay core for fun that arrived looking way better than that...

But honestly, after some time on the road all intercoolers will look like that. |

I would just sent it back specially if I paid for a brand new unit, You get what you paid for so if you paid for a new unit it should be in new condition!!!!

If you bought it new, then send it back.

Meh, gonna' swap it out. I understand it won't affect performance, but I hate paying a good amount of money for a brand new product that looks used.
Just to let everyone know, HPF refused to pay for the shipping back to them to swap it out because they felt nothing was wrong with the product. Andrew@LutzPerformance is actually covering all of the shipping so I can swap and receive another one. I can't say enough about his customer service. It sucks I won't be able to test Stage 2+ FMIC this weekend and will have to wait until I get back from travelling, but I guess it'll be worth the wait. |

Correct, I bought it from Andrew@LutzPerformance. He didn't have any in stock though, and it was sent directly from HPF. He normally does QC himself as well, but I wanted it ASAP for my install this week so it came straight from them.

Same thing happened to me back in Sept of last year, except it was way worse! HPF has been dropping the quality control on their intercoolers:

For the price they charge for that FMIC, it better be perfect. ETS charges a fraction of that and their welds and fins look perfect when you take it out of the box.
