m57 pinking diesel knock ?
Hi Guys,
New on the forum so excuse me if im not in the right place. I have an e90 and an e46 with the m57 4 cylinder diesel engine. My e46 (280k km) has a tune I bought it with, I do not know the details of it but you can notice it over the stock tune. I had this car for a year without any issues after a year it started with this pinking noise (I guess knockin) on acceleration around 1500 to 3000 revs, basically when under load. (I can best describe it as a chain being dragged on concrete). I was thinking fuel system issue and because of the incorrect fueling Im getting bad burn and the poor valves are being raped and they are chiming. I had the injectors rebuilt as first I was suspecting them being the problem. However the noise did not go away. Maybe something else in the commonrail fuel system chain? (no codes BTW) Anyone have any experiance on idea on this ? I would appriciate any help with this Thank you. |

Have you had the timing chain checked? Might be one thing to rule out before completely rebuilding the injection system.

Hi Adee,
Thank you for the reply, I did not check the timing chain however, I heard that on these engines the chain can jump a teeth and cause issues. You think this would cause a noise like this which only comes when the engine is under load? The power is all there, still and I cannot hear any other wierd noises the engine is actually very smooth on idle and on normal cruising. Thanks again. |
