DIY Intake using OEM box
I made my own custom intake this weekend useing what is know as the Eurobox aross the atlantic.. To us its just the standrad one. Step by step:
Pics will be found further down in the thread. Cut out the supportstruckture for the OEM filter and then cutting up the box with a offcenter sqauer hole where the supportstruckture was. Drill four 25mm holes in the side of the box and one 32mm hole on the outher side of box, facing backwards of the car. Mach a 32mm plastic hosepipe in the hole and seal it with silicon. Run a 32mm vaccumhose from the pipe to the holes in the fender meeting the inside of the fender. The box has a 82mm edge where the OEM filter mounts. Get a two layer dryfom filter ( I use Ramiar) with a 80mm socket. The filter I used is slightly of center so I could squees it in better. Get a 80mm 45 or 60 deegre alupipe and a 80mm silicon hose. Cut the pipe to the correct lenght an cut the siliconhose in half. Mount it to the box and throttlebody and Thaddaa... U have I new intake My impression of the mod: The throttlerespons is better, fuleconsuption is better, aver. 0.5liter / 10km in 90Km/h. And THE NOISE!!! OMG... Its a mix of Weber carburator growl and houling of a racecar! Its just amazing!! Best mod. ever

Brilliant.
@EvoGlyn did something more tame long ago. A large hole near where you drilled 3 Myself I run the Rev motors air elbow pipe to the throttle body, this has improved throttle response for me and restored exhaust sound vs Eurobox with OEM pipe

I've been thinking about doing this to my Z4. I must take a picture later, If I remember correctly my Air Box sits higher than the TB. So I have two elbows, one curving "down" connected to one Curving to the TB.

There is defiantly no powerloss! Car runs just as good as before, if not better. Throttlerespons is better and and fuel consumptionhas improved.. And the hols are facing away from the engine anyhow... And there is some small gaps between the faring and the radiator where air from outside will enter the enginebay
The hose acts as second cold air intake and to some extent a acoustic improvment, using the inside of the fender as a renonatchamber... I think..
