Dealer diagnosed: Power steering pump failure

Replacement part # dealer advised
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-32416769887oe
FCPeuro suggests (for the model/year car)
no active steering
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-32416779244-1
active steering
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...is-32416779245

Leaving dealer to sort it.

Wow didn't realize the pump was $600 bucks. How much is dealer charging you for this repair? Parts plus labor?

Have they given you any idea why it failed?

Car is covered by 3rd party mechanical insurance so no cost to me.

9 months ago, under previous owner, the pump failed and was taken to BMW Dealer.
At that time, the Insurance company asked BMW to repair/recondition pump & not replace it.
I haven't asked how it was "repaired" or why it has failed again after 9 months.

Insurance has authorized replacement now.

Dealer first advised part number 32416769887 (330i and below)
I told him about part number 32416779245 (335i + active steering)
He checked & told me I was right.

Strange...

Not sure if he read that part # from the pump inside car right now (assuming it fits).
Or just misread the inventory system.

I will ask this later to be sure.

Dealer part cost is similar to the online link.
Labour approx $125NZD/hour. Don't know how many hours.
Will post more info when I have it

I had that, I flushed the power steering fluid and replaced the o-ring on the cap and it got mostly fixed. That was a bazillion miles ago.

Have spoken to Insurance/Repairer.

9 months ago the pump was dismantled, seals replaced, put back together with new/top up of fluid.

This time the noise is suggested to be coming from the pump blades rubbing on the housing. It is possible this is due to oil loss.

Regardless rather than attempt another repair the unit is being replaced with a new one.
I will post an update when I receive the old one and have it inspected.

UPDATE: Power steering pump noise explained (another car, same issue)
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=559847

UPDATE #2: Pickup car+old pump tomorrow. Mechanic says it was leaking (again) lol.

Car collected from mechanic. Looks like the right model for active steering.

Mechanic said pump leaked. Almost no fluid = noise. Not sure why. Seals replaced last year

Can someone tell me where to read part number? Some numbers found, but not in online catalogs
