I think moderators should lock this thread put a sticky stating WHY the speedometer is inaccurate, and BAN anyone who starts another thread about this (there have been a couple)

Seriously, though, can we kill this thread all ready?

They have to make shure that even when the approved tire with the most tread is on the car that the spedo will not read over the actual speed ( you will find there are diameter differences between makes of tires, eventhough they are the same spec ).

If your actual speed was 61MPH and your guage read 60MPH you could take the manufacturer to court if you recieved a speeding fine.

Also remember if testing by GPS to do it on a level road. If you are going slightly downill or uphill the unit would show your speed differently than your speedo would. ( if you fall straight downward at 100MPH [ or any speed ] your GPS would show your speed as 0 )
How do you figure that? GPS uses triangulation. So it figures altitude etc..based off your position, thus can calculate speed also if you are going straight down.

Oh well, I just couldn't take my inaccurate speedometer anymore and sold my BMW. In place of it I bought a Porsche 911 Turbo, which surprisingly has a quite accurate speedometer (compared to the BMW). It is only off by about 1mph at 90mph so I can live with it.

Obviously the only real difference between a BMW 325i and a 911 Turbo is the inaccuracy of the speedometer and thus that was my only reason for selling. (wink wink)

I have gps radar on my windshield. The speedometer in the cluster, the digital speedometer, cruise speed setting, and radar all say different speeds. Is there a solution to calibrating these to the correct reading? To me this is obnoxious.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
