North jersey wheel straitening and powder coating

I have 4 bent wheels on my 335i. I was considering buying new ones because I’m Not a hung fan of how my stock wheels look but when running the numbers, for even a Cheap wheel and tire package I would likely be in for 2k. I got some quotes for the straitening and powder coating in the range of 500-600. That seams a lot more reasonable to me. The problem is I want to take it to a trustworthy place where I know the wheels will be straitened to perfection and a perfectly done dripping powder coat. I know it may be more expensive than my initial quotes but somebody please point me in the right direction. I’m sick of dealing with scam shops. I need this job done right. Thanks in advance!

Not sure how tight your budget is, but if you are anything like me and are picky about your wheels, wanting them to look new as possible - then just replacing them is probably the best way to go. It won't be the cheapest option, but you will probably be happier in the long run.

Most powder coating places I know that are well respected and can do an excellent job are charging around $200 per wheel. Figure another $80 or so for each wheel to be straightened, and you are looking at around $1,100 - $1,200 to have them all done right.

You can get a brand new set of OEM BMW 18" wheels for around $1,500 or so.

In my mind, it is worth the couple extra hundred bucks to be sitting on brand new wheels, done right.

Even if damaged, many of the manufacturing centers will buy your old wheels for around $25-$50 each, which will nearly offset the cost difference between the powder coating & straightening compared to brand new wheels.

Just my 2 cents.

Only problem is my stocks are 17’s so if I do that I’ll need 4 new tires as well bringing me closer to 2k. I’m new to this whole n54 scene but I have an appointment for Friday to do my downpipes tune carbon cleaning and valves and I need to be rolling right after it’s done. I just want to make a smart decision because the other job is gonna run me nearly 2K as well.

Sorry - that actually seems to be a good thing, as the 17" wheels will be substantially cheaper.

Now your down to around $1,000 - $1,200 for all four wheels.

I see that I can find 4 wheels for 1000-1200 in a 17 and swap my existing tires but I haven’t read the best reviews on the rims in that price range. Is there something in particular that you could recommend?

Sorry - might not have been clear, I am not referring to aftermarket wheels - I am referring to brand new OEM wheels from BMW. The same wheels that came with your car new from the factory at BMW.

See link below. Sets of 4 brand new 17" BMW factory wheels are between $1,123 and $1,397.

There is a place by Wayne NJ called USA wheels, I get a sense they do wheel work for a bunch of dealers, however you can go direct to them as they have a front office. I have gotten a bunch of cracked rims fixed there and they are pretty good and priced well as they are more geared towards wholesale volume. If you fix and also coat the rims, they give you a deal from what I remember, and they are always busy. I think they will also give you an honest opinion on your situation

I have known several people who have done business with them. The reputation is mixed. Some have came away happy, others have noticed that the wheels are very difficult to balance or don't always hold air.

Just be aware.

No worries - just wanted to give you all the options that were out there.

Good luck in whatever you decided.

Check out needpowdercoating in Newark, NJ. They do great work and are not terribly expensive.
I straightened 2 wheels, and powdercoated all 4 for $450 on my old eE46 about 2 years back.
I'm going to them again this spring to powdercoat my Rohanna wheels for the summer.

Well I believe with some of the others, buy new would be better in the long run, but I used a place called Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist near Allentown PA who were pretty good.

just buy a used wheel/tire setup off the forums, facebook marketplace, or craigslist. Should be able to find something you like for under $1k with decent tires on them.

yeah you can buy a good set of used wheels on the forums and other places. if you do buy new Apex, gramlights, enkei, and the likes of those companies have strong wheels for a good price. I would highly recommend to go with a reputable brand as cheap wheels break and the headache of dealing with that isn't worth it.
you can even find used forged wheels for a good price like oem m3 wheels.
but if you do end up deciding to fix and Powdercoat need powdercoat is the place to go. they include fixing the wheels with the powdercoat price. and try even have loaner wheels if you really can't go a few days without wheels. they even have good prices on labor. like coilovers adjustments, installation, maintenance etc. and they use a roadforce balancing for balancing the wheels.
