Hi guys
I have done the retrofit of CIC a few months back. And can only agree. It's really worth the time and money. I have a question though....Why are you changing build date in VO? Is that to be able to still get a BMW authentic coder on yhre car at the stealership or? Before someone asks why I want that, I can tell you taht I had the need getting my sealings in the moonroof changed. By that the car needs to know that new sealings are installed for the roof engine to squeeze a bit more on the new sealings. From what I've heard that should'nt be possible with this retrofit :-(

Correct. You would not be able to bring it to the dealer as the dealer tools they use requires the car to have oem parts that came with car when it was manufactured...Return the car to the CCC unit and then it would not be a problem. I still have my CCC unit just in case for recalls such as the injectors and faulty fuel pump if the problems ever arise..

First thanks for the informative thread. Lots of great information in here for me as I'm just about to retrofit my 2008 e92 M3 to CIC w/ Combox.
Do I have to remove any VO code for the CCC? Or will adding $6VA do that automatically? For the Combox, I ordered a PNP cable from BimmerRetrofit to make the connection from my current TCU + MULF. Once that cable is installed do I need to do anything besides adding 6FL + 6NF to the VO? |

Did mine earlier tonight. Had to use Tool32 to change my VIN to recode the CIC after install because the car mine came out of didn't have Logic 7/Top HiFi so I had no sound immediately after install. Also went ahead and disabled the disclaimer and added fuel stop suggestions along with the English UK language option because I like the voice better

So I'm embarking on a CIC retrofit to my non-iDrive '08 and I am perplexed at the price differential between brand new (or are they remanufactured) units from BMW parts e-tailers (e.g. GetBMWParts, BMWPartsPros, ECSTuning) which they are selling for a lowest price of $530, versus used eBay units costing $675 to $1,200 (without builtin Sirius tuner).
Since an FSC or hardware emulator is required regardless, is there anything I'm missing on why used units are so much higher and if those are preferred over factory new/refurbed ones?

I thought about that, but from all three sources I checked, there is no verbiage indicating an core exchange or charge is required...

Do you really need the glove box USB if you already have the 6FL option USB port in the console? Or is this specifically for updating/uploading maps?
UPDATE: After digging through Rheingold, I discovered that the glovebox USB port is used for importing music files onto the internal hard drive, while console USB port is only used for playback of external audio sources. I'm still trying to figure out a way to pull up LCI wiring schematics for the CIC navigation system but currently my Rheingold install only provides schematics to seemingly a limited, random number of components (I thought ISTA/D was fully integrated into Rheingold and that ISTA/D is the only "offline" access to wiring schematics, since WDS was discontinued after MY2008).

I just can't seem to figure out how to do that through Rheingold as I just installed the application recently.

It was too good to be true: the prices are after a core exchange. The core exchange quoted to me was $500. So either you pony up $1,000+ outright to get a BMW remanufactured unit or look to the used market.

did you add $609 as well or it worked with just #0909 and $6VA?

In my particular case for my car all I added to VO was #0909. Read the modules and CIC headunit was present in the module list after change of production date. Then I just default coded the CIC with expertmode and everything worked. I did not need to add any other VO.

Help pls with getting info from CIC unit
Hi,
I have recently had the CCC to CIC upgrade done and everything works fine accept the "my info" which means I can no longer receive destinations from Google or any other "send to my car" app. I have a full active BMW assist account but understand that it maybe a database issue as the car originally had the CCC unit fitted. I have read on another US forum that all you need to do is get BMW connected drive dept to move you over onto the CIC database. This is not easy as they refused initially but then asked me to provide all this info from the retro fitted CIC: ICC-ID · TCU-ID · MSISDN · Serial number for new head unit if different from the ICC-ID Does anyone know where this info is located? & what software is needed to extract it? Its all rather strange as all the other assist functions work fine including email Any help would be gratefully appreciated Thanks |

I'm pretty sure you need to finish coding the CIC to make it aware of your TCU. Pull your trace file for the CIC and send it to me and I'll see if I can sort it for you.
I'll pm my email addy.. Dan |

So it sounds like this retro is pretty much one of the best stock upgrades you can do. I did notice someone mentioned something that kind of makes me curious though. If I do this mod, and I ever want to take my car to the dealership for a recall or something, I have to put the CCC unit back in?
Thanks! |

Hello
I am looking at a CCC to CIC upgrade. If you have a unit with other than the desirable V42 firmware, is it possible to upgrade or downgrade to get to V42? Is it necessary to use ICOM or is it practical to use a DCAN adapter? How long does it take to complete a firmware upgrade? If you buy a BMW reconditioned/new unit, what version of firmware would be on it now (August 2015)? |
