I got 2009 bmw 328i xdrive.

I visited a bmw dealership to change the brake fluid. They say I need to pay 250$ for brake fluid change and cabin filter change.

They also said I need to change the engine oil with 105$ since the last engine oil change has been one year.

is it reasonable price? or do I have to go other BMW specialized shop?

Doing oil yourself will run you about $60-75.
Brake seems a high. Try Independent shop.

way high $$$. changing brake fluid isn't hard, but does take a bit of learning like anything. Fluid is cheap, it's all labor. if you can jack your car, and remove a wheel, buy a motive power bleeder and learn to use it. If saving money is a priority, DIY. Otherwise bend over for the stealer...

Shouldn't everything you mentioned be covered under the factory maintenance for a 2009 bmw? I remember getting a free brake fluid change, cabin filter and oil change last year with my 2008.

I had my brake fluid changed at an Indy Shop for $120. It was in the spring of this year. Do a google search for some shops that specialize in German cars and ask for quotes.

I also have a little question, is it ok to get the brake fluid change at independent shop? I am worried if I get the service at independent shop, the cpo warranty will be void.
And also, is the vehicle going to still notice me any further maitenance required?

good point. My dealer did both cabin filter, brake fluid and oil as part of the 4 year maintenance. I suppose OP could be miles or barely over in time.

it was due on august 2012. I wish I could get the service before the due was passed.

Changing out brake fluid isn't very difficult. Below is a video we did using our E90 M3 on brake fluid changes.

The cost of the cabine air filter service is high. Sort of a ripoff, but this is typical dealer pricing for an agregate of these 3 services.

You can DIY al this, the cabine filter can be sourced online (ecs, bavauto.com, amazon,...) for ~26, instead of typical 55-60 at dealer.

Just had my brake fluid flushed by my dealer two days ago. It only costed $102 taxed included. Wasn't too bad.

Not to sound paranoid, but how do we ensure the dealer has done the work and not simply reset the sensor (and charged us for the full price of the change)? I'm due for a change and my fluid seems clear enough although I know that's not a true indication of its condition. Is there a telltale way to know they've done the work properly?

Just looking at the OP's post: "They say I need to pay 250$ for brake fluid change and cabin filter change." That was for the brake fluid chance AND the cabin filter which is generally quite expensive (especially the genuine BMW part), but this is still crazy expensive regardless! LOL

Something that I thought about the other day, with manual cars, I highly doubt that the dealers, or for that matter, most workshops bleed the clutch which shares the same fluid and reservoirs. I so want to invest in a power bleeder, or vacuum bleeder!!

A tire store or any competent mechanic can do the flush, just make sure they use BMW fluid or similar.

Bleeding the clutch slave cylinder is a pain in the ass. The bleeder screw is a 5MM and located in such position that you can barely reach it with a wrench and turn it enought to bleed it. I've bled mine, but I have a lift. Doing it on your back I would imagine is impossible.

Oh no, trust me, I know! I helped a friend delete his CDV and we did have a lift which helped, but it was a as you say a mission to open and close that bleeder screw. I wonder if a ratchet type 5mm wrench would make this job a bit easier. But the idea is if you have a pressure bleeder, all you have to do is open that bleeder until you are happy that it has forced out enough of the old fluid and replaced with fresh. We were still trying to bleed the clutch the manual way!

Yeah that's nuts. My price did go up though, as I've done 2 flushes after the 4 yr free maint. First was $120, second was $140.

My assumption may be wrong, but I have always assumed BMW bleeds at all 4 calipers (I hope). Otherwise, a muffler shop do one caliper job would be just as good. That's a trick so you leave with your reservoir clear as water. The next day it's brownish again because they didnt' bleed the entire system.

You can do it yourself, if you have a power bleeder like a motive or a Mitivac. Cost for AMSOIL racing brake fluid is about $10.00 for 10oz with the 25% off membership. I usually buy four bottles to be safe. So, $40.00 and maybe 90 minutes or your time.
