I have been waiting for this mod, but to be honest I feel so ripped off and feel as though Dinan is treating us as idiots. This is what I do for a living (Industrial Design Engineer) and can tell you that there is less than $15.00 in the BOM plus the price of the K&N filter. Has no one at Dinan ever taken a marketing class? Do they have their heads so far up their as@ that they don't even understand basic elasticity of the market?
Dinan, if you read these forums, which you should but likely don’t, do some basic sales analysis and pull your head out. If you sold this kit for $200.00 you would sell 100x as many units and increase overall profit. Pricing 101: set a price that is below perceived value, but higher than your competition. This creates value, to us the consumer. If this is the type of reasoning they use on all of their products, count me out for anything Dinan. Which IS a loss for them since I had planned on doing a complete Dinan car, super charger and all. See yeah Dinan! (If you have ANY balls you would reply to these posts.)

I can't wait to see some pictures of this thing installed, hopefully you can see where the tube is routed ... maybe then we'll see why it's not a bent pipe instead of plastic tubing. Oh wait, it could still be bent pipe if they took some time. Who knows, maybe they put their pre-production dev unit pics up since they didn't have final unit pics, and the finished product will be nicer? |

Does anyone know if the 499.00 for the intake includes the 2.5 hr labor, or do we have to pay extra for that?

This is rediculous..........why look at what i found IN MY GARAGE! its a vaccum tip.....it looks like the one pictured in the dinan site except has a wider mouth..a perfect rectangular mouth, which i think is better as it has a greater surface area for bringing in more air.......pics to follow soon

How about this, you let us know what you honestly think, and never look back at the thread again. That way, when people flame you (because you unfortunately know they will) you won't see it. I would like to hear someones opinion on this intake.

So this is how I'll do it.
First of all, this is how the GruppeM fits into the engine compartment. Notice how the sides of the air filter compartment are actually the engine compartment sides. Btw, those are not my hairy arms. Here's my dirty engine compartment: Now imagine the following photo in 3D. It is taken from the top of the engine compartment looking down into the area where the GruppeM intake was. You can see the brake duct below. The space between the brake duct and fog light is where a ram air intake can be inserted. |

i had a idea similar to yours micheal. instead of making a ram air vent. i was thinging about leading the intake piping straight down there where there is cold air.
never got to do it because im a broke college kid. |

I nit pick everything so my negative comments weren't directed at you specifically for choosing to install this intake. I just like to know all the plus and minuses about everything before I make a decision. Pretty sure as a bunch, BMW owners are the same level of critical. If you choose to bail on us, that's fine. But it does seem odd that you'd continue to post in the thread about how you're going to get it installed ... during the negative comments ... and then come back and post a naa naa boo boo on us for posting negative stuff. Therefore I call and say you ended up listening to the negativity and ditched the intake at the last second. |
