Engine cover foam.
The last time I took my plastic engine cover off to do a job the foam acoustic layer gel apart so I binned it. To be honest I didn't really notice a difference when I started it afterwards so forgot about it.
However, yesterday I went to see my dad who buys cheap bangers to flip when he comes across them. He's just bought a 2004 E60 530d with a lot of miles on it. The battery had gone flat so we jumped it with mine. As we stood there with both engines side by side running it occurred to me that his did indeed sound quieter! So, can this foam layer be bought separately or was it fitted as a complete thing with the plastic cover as shown on real OEM. Idle musings really, just wondered. Thanks. |

Oh that’s a good idea. Wish I’d read this half an hour ago. Just taken the cover off to have a look at the condition of my egr. Unlike the 5er, getting to the back 2 bolts is a faf. I do have some sound deadening pads left over from a job I did on my previous car. Forgot all about them. I may go back out and do it. Thanks.

let me know if it works, I know dynamat is expensive but if it makes it quieter it may be worth it, thought about doing underneath the bonnet as well
