Thank you very much Jeff.

I started diagnostics at the battery. The connection looks solid. I have a question here. Ideally, where should the headunit +12 permanent supply line to the battery be connected? There are a few '+' contact terminals on the battery and I have connected it to the one that looked vacant. However, one document I read online says I should be careful while choosing the '+' terminal. A picture of my battery connection and part of the document I read is attached.

With the unit still unable to boot/turn ON, I ran a diagnostics session using ISTA-D tool. What is strange is that everytime I run diagnostics, the tool is trying to do a MOST reset before listing the faults, as you can see in the picture. Should this happen if you don't have Logic 7 (fiber optic MOST) in the car? The diagnostic session continues after MOST reset and tells me that there is no communication with the head unit.

I then turned the Ignition ON (engine OFF) and measured voltages coming from the red Ignition wire and the orange Illumination wire. Both were zero. So obviously the unit wouldn't turn ON. Then I disconnected the CAN interface, waited a couple of minutes and then reconnected it. Did the same measurements. I get 11 volts for Ignition ON and 6 volts for Illumination ON. Does the voltages look right? The Dynavin unit also booted up, and I checked that all functions work.

I compared the wiring diagram sticker on my Dynavin unit to the actual connector layout behind and they do not match. If you look at Dynavin N6 user guide, it's page 7-9. The sticker on my unit looks more like it's a 1 Din MOST unit, but the connector layout is more like a 2 Din CAN unit. Do you think there is a mix up somehow?

Another area I suspect is the wiring harness, the one that connects the cable harness from car to the CAN interface and from CAN interface to Dynavin. I checked all contacts for loose connection and they look good. Are there different harnesses for CAN and MOST based Dynavin units? Could it be that I have the wrong harness (for MOST) in that case? I see there is an extra 8 pin connector (that should have been going to MOST interface?) that is unused at the moment.

So that's where I stand. The unit is back to work, but I don't know when it'll go down again. I know I'm involving you a lot and should have talked to the seller directly, but I thought the troubleshooting would benefit you and others. Feel free to say, if it's taking too much of your time :=)

Best Regards,

Tenil.

The harnesses is the same whether you have a L7 (MOST Amp) or not....I don't see anything wrong with anything you described except that you seem to loose sync with the CAN system periodically. I know I see it every once in a while but it seems to happen to you consistantly, and you have already had your equipment replaced so its not likely a hardware problem.....although you might have your dealer send you a new wire harness as well just to rule it out...

Try contacting Dynavin in Germany with this, they may be more likely to have seen this than whoever you are currently dealing with.

Does the N7 retain the OEM chime sounds?

Yes, the N7 is able to emulate the factory chime, unlike the N6 that used a more generic sound.

Thanks Jeff. Is CarPlay built in this time as well? I know a few had the iLink on the N6 and mentioned the screen quality suffered when using carplay. Hopefully this has been addressed on N7

Appreciate the info Jeff. Does the main menu stay on all the time or does it revert back to radio, phone etc screen whatever was last used. I know the N6 stayed on the tile icon screen for about a minute then switched back.

although in general my unit works well, i still have odd issues, DAB saved stations randomly disappearing, signal can drop and the only way to get it back is reset the unit.
i still cant change my my setting to right hand drive as the options isn't there.

i keep coming back here hoping for an update, but still nothing. i bet the N7 wont be any different, they will fix those issue's in the N8.

I alsol have bugs.

1. No fix for the Battery and oil temp.
2. Dimmed display in dab screen after reverse
3. All bass disapears after phonecall
3. Sometimes it dosent turn off when ignition is off...
4. Dosent keep on the 20 min it is supposed to.
5. DAB sometimes go silent, and I have to scan for channels again.

I have owned this for over 3 years and they never fixed the bugs.
If they dont keep on development on software I will be very disapointed.
They cant just move to N7 without at least fixing the bugs.
And what happened to apps?

No offense to Jeff. He has given me exellent service!!
I quote my self giving the info that I have gone back to Firmware 1.2.3.
This solved for me a lot of problems.
Much better now.
Still some issues as oil and battery.

Jeff@TopGearSolutions
Is there any way to check if there are any updates on the DAB+ unit ?
I got the latest update from you: 27.05.2015
Not critical, but sometimes channels goes silent and I have to rescan.
Other than that it is working great.

Have you talked to one of the European dealers? Since we dont have DAB here I'm probably the last person you should be asking about the ins and outs of the DAB units, firmware, etc... I think you need to talk to a dealer that actually installs and uses the DAB tuners. Try the german dealer if you don't get anywhere locally.

I believe it stays on the source menu....although that may change to "timing out" like the N6 did at some point. Although the N7 has a on screen "return" button that will take you back to your audio screen...so maybe not!

No, Jeff...
You ARE the only reason I purchased three Dynavin head units for my two e90 BMW'S ['07 328XI and '11 335i xDrive (FBO + PS2 fully loaded with a 2017 Musicar Northwest Stage One package)]. Why three head units for two cars? GRAVITY! I f'd up and dropped the second unit completing the final touches on my 335 mid-life crisis. My carelessness was a direct result of Wedge Perfomance 93 oct custom tune. Erectionally speaking, a 58 year old does not go from a 300hp to 410+ fully hard without being able to rock the crap out of his neighbors!
Jeff's reply to my automotive bankrupting mid-life mistake was beyond businesslike. Jeff had another head unitenroute to my house before I sent payment. Show me another forum sponsor who does business like that?
Happy Holidays, Pal! Dynavin owes you!

Dynaving N6 losing "memory"

After I noticed my dynavin was losing some values , I decided to reinstall the software but it did not solve the issues. After "20 minutes" the microphone gain and equalizer values go to ZERO but subwoofer at max ; Delay to rear left . Clock and radio stations are still ok. What is MCU sync Problem? Does it have a hardware related issue? Where can i find the 1.2.3 OS ?

So how do you get rid of that radio box icon on the navigation?

I've never had it before, but I recently did a reset and now it's there. It's a little black box icon on the navigation screen and when you click it, it shows the radio information. I've searched all the settings and cant seem to get rid of it. It's so annoying.
