Did you tape up your center console with blue tape or the technician did that to protect it from scratches? If the dealer did it, then I really like your dealer for being considerate and curtious to their customer. We seldom get that kind of services and care of our cars from us service deparment. Or maybe you took the initiative to protect your trim.

Cars are updated only if there is a reason (i.e. something doesn't work quite right and the upgrade will resolve it).

Ja, no Gen 3 support, sorry. I was too tired to post that last night. The final instructions do not list Gen3 either.

This was not intentional, from what I gather, they discovered the problem in testing. My guess is no one had a Gen 3 and someone said ,,oh let´s test that one too just to be sure``.

not a dumb question, no, iDrive is NOT required but of course you get more info on screen with iDrive. I played with one car a few months ago that had a MID and it worked fine. Of course, with the larger iDrive screen, it´s easier to find things.

Now this is the iPod update I've been waiting for. Maybe I'll get it in the future.

If there was any doubt, I am now convinced. I will NOT be getting this! First, I have a pre-Sept '05 production E90 so I'm sure us beta testers were forgotten. Also, without iDrive you get punished and don't get all the functions. Lastly, Jonathan - of course they were careful with YOUR car.. we won't be so lucky since we don't write for Roundel.

Not true - just not the same display space for information. All functionality is present.

There is currently nothing wrong with my car and I'd like to keep it that way. It just does not appear to be worth the headaches.

That would never happen at my center nor would the tape the trim in the center console. Repeat, never!

Possibly 1 NEW iPod Interface for sale. Stay tuned.

Once you guys figure out more about what has changed in the iDrive interface (or can explain it better), please provide an update. I'm interested in the iDrive changes as much as I am in the iPod interface.

For example -- the thinner font, do you prefer it? Does it actually show more characters on the screen? If it does show more characters, have you found that to be beneficial? I guess that would be good for MP3 song titles, but I can't think of where else I've needed more screen space. I think the current font is easy to read, so I'm not sure I'd like it to be thinner.

The more intuitive interface -- how is it more intuitive? I can't figure it out from Jonathan's photos. Adding the keypad to the phone screen is a great idea, although I rarely use my keypad. I dial everything by voice command and only need the keypad when doing voicemail menus.

Any changes to the nav interface? If they snuck a "search by POI name" in there...

Non-iDrive 03/05 - on E90s are eligible for the interface.

Im picking up my car today, and the iPod interface will be in there. How can I check to see if I have the new PROGMAN, or how can I get to the screen Jonothan was showing us? I have used iDrive once and that was on the test drive so go easy haha.

Greeney, on the startup, if you click on the controller (for "info") and your screen looks like the one drfluid posted above, then it's the newer s/w. Or, I guess, if the splash screen goes away by itself without you clicking on "accept" or whatever.

indeed, very rare do we see technician who shows pride in what they do. That is a keeper my friend.

It also might means that they get paid more than us technicians. or this just means that technician knows you are a news reporter so you get special treatment. Either way, it is all good
