I would really like to do the Alpine retrofit for my 2010 E90 335xi. I want to order the kit from Rover Active, however, I am confused at the parts to replace the window frames.

I need an entire window frame for both sides, the foam tweeter surrounds and the actual tweeter pods or does the parts 51 33 7 171 201 and the other side give you all the parts you need?

It looks like the kit has the tweeter grill parts for both types of body styles. If you look at Technic's pdf, you can see the diagram. You have the e90 so you would only be using the part labels K and L. I have actually bought them separately without the kit as they are described above.

One thing of note is that this kit does not seem to have a center speaker or the grill for it.

That P/N is only for the frame; I think that the foam is already installed as standard in your blank tweeter pods in your Sedan.

Check it out...

That was my suggestion/example of OEM parts upgrades for a different kind of upgrade level.

None of the grilles are included in the OEM Alpine kit.

So I ordered the Alpine kit and the door frame parts. Came to around $700 shipped for everything. All in all not too bad.

My next question is the under seat subs. i know the Alpine kit amplifies the subs off the rear channels. I have the stock 6.5 woofers. I would like to upgrade these as well. What do you think of some used Logic7 subs? These would drop right in place and sound decent plus match the mids and tweeters.

What ohm load are the Logic7 subs 4 or 2?

Should i put a coil on the subs to filter out the highs- thought maybe 150hz filter.

Thanks for all the responses

To Technic

Since you seem to be the guru of Audio Mods here can you tell me what I need to do to upgrade a 2006 10 speaker system in a 06 325i wagon. Do you have a thread ? Do I have to add an amp ontop of the existing amp using the speaker level out or is there a clean way to do this? Do you have an existing thread that explains how to do this ? Where is the amp located? I like the Jl products but if I put in a JL660 all the speakers would have to be upgraded to handle the power and I don't see a lot of 4 inch speakers that could handle that kind of power.

I think of Technic more as the "Rain Man" of audio mods here (I mean that only in the best of ways!)

Don't ask the guy with an E91 or anything...

Definition of our OEM system (it's the HiFi system):

Thread about my E91:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324214

Your big question is, are you cool with underseats? Until I do my fiberglass enclosure this spring for my Morel Ultimo 10, I have a prefab enclosure back there which I regularly unplug and take out for spave reasons (such as right now when I have 4 tires in for install today).

I recommend to local customers to go with underseats only. It's much easier to get 4 or 6 channels to tuck away than it is a trunk sub, and if you have a wagon, you don't want a box back there.

Got a budget for the project? Self install or pro? And what PART of the USA?

Just to let you know, most places sell a Parrot Sound On Top cable that you can use to add an aftermarket amp without touching your oem harness.
Designed to add a bluetooth module.

I paid under $10 for this one.

As long as those Logic7 woofers (4 ohms) are dirt cheap they should be much better than your 6.5".

There is a pair of Logic7 woofers apparently for sale in the classifieds.

I would go with a pair of SWS-8 instead, and according to how thos OEM Alpine kit is configured the connection to the woofers should be already low passed at the amp.

Thanks for the reply VP Elect and Technic

VP I looked at your mod its looks like your are adding more than one Amp and its very extensive.
Some questions I have?
Are the inputs(from the head unit I would assume) to the stock Amp analog or Most Bus Fiberoptic
What Amp and speaker would you use if you just wanted a modest upgrade to say 50watts rms a channel.
I read all the stuff about the stock speakers being 2 ohm .
If you only mess with 4 inch drivers and tweeters what kind of problems would you run into?

The problem I think we're running into right now is, your questions have been answered many times before, and then we're pointing you at the info, and you seem to want your specific questions answered before reading up on what's been previously covered. You asked if there was a thread.

Interfacing an amp to the HiFi system is the same regardless of how many amps you are adding.

I asked you if you had a budget, if you were cool with just the underseat woofers, if you were installing it yourself, and what part of the country you were in. You haven't answered any of those questions. That would be a good place to start, and I would suggest doing it in a new thread, by the way

Sorry for the redundent questions

I'm in Santa Cruz ,Ca
I probably wouldn't want to Install something myself unless it was truly
plug and play and after reading these boards and talking to the local stereo
shops I have my doubts that any of them know what there actually dealing with on E9x's. I looked at BSW but from reading the boards it looks like they don't actually do much for you especially in the 10 speaker system without adding and Amp which they currently don't have for the e9x's.
I might be cool with the under seat speaker with a better amp but the big hole is the lower mid range
and the distortion , lack or presence and muddiness when turning the volume up . Better tweeters would help to but that looks easy.

Many shops are ignorant about Bangle BMWs, unfortunately.

The HiFi systems have a flat, full-range, balanced output to the amp. Amps which can take true balanced in will work with the signal.

Upgrading the fronts and the underseats give you the biggest improvement. The SWS8 is the lower with and easier underseat upgrade. The Morel ADMW9 is a more involved and more costly upgrade. There are midbass-specific speakers I won't address here.

I like the Morel Dotech Ovation 4 and the SWS8-2 and the Zapco DC360.4 myself as a basic package, tuned for the car, and with good mid to midbass transition, largely due to the DSP settings I use. This also damps the SWS8 peak and extends the low end a bit, so we get a more neutral and wider-range woofer.

Installed we do that for $2200. In the E91, we can use two DC200 vertical in the well instead (if you also want a 10" in the side panel, we can put a DC500 in there too, and if you want rears, there is room for a 3rd DC200).

So what I'd like to do in that car is $2300-2500 installed.

My upgrades are to go with Morel Hybrid Ovations in the front doors, or a trunk sub, or a rear-channel amp for ambiance effects.

My downgrades are to use a lower-cost amplifier without DSP settings. Saves a couple hundred bucks. You can use the Rainbow components too, but they don't play as low as the Dotechs in my experience. That can save you another bill and a half or so.

We are more expensive than many shops... but we know E91s.

Come visit us in Portland - the sales tax you save will pay for your gas bill

I found the pdf on basic specs and that answered some of the questions along with the write ups by VP. Thanks

I wouldn't bother with SWS8's with the Alpine, they are not that sensitive and you can't adjust the Alpine amp to get them matched, the don't go loud enough.
