2011 335d AC Issues

Need help understanding what is happening with my AC. Car has 245,000 miles and has been well maintained.

The Fan under the hood that turns on when the car needs it does not turn on when the AC turns on. As a result the AC blows hot air.

When the engine gets warm enough the fan turns on and my AC blows cold air.

Any insight?

Anyone had this happen to them and possible resolution.
