My "triangle!" light came on, with the CCID41 notifying me of scheduled maintenance. Scrolling through the service menu, this is the only item that was red. I reset the date for 12/20. What is the "SS"? am I missing something dire? 2007 328i coupe

Should be in your owners manual as an emissions related inspection. There is one in the front and rear... not sure which you are referring to.

The "SS" as you call it is for safety inspection. It's just a date-based reminder for your annual state-regulated inspection
