Again, we don't have TPMS in Australia.

Finally got to drive my car today a decent distance with the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports on (have had the car on ramps for almost 2 weeks whilst fitting the Active Autowerkes Down Pipes....see other thread about this).
Grip, feel and noise are all excellent, however the ride quality has improved considerably. My opinion is that the Bridgestone runflats on 230 19" rims gave me a ride quality of 4/10 now it is close to 10/10 or perfect for me.I was considering upgrading the suspension to improve the ride....... now I'm not considering it anymore. For an average person like me I reckon it is the biggest improvement you can make to the car...... Procede or tune is no 2. If you want a character improvement excercise then I recomend installing your own down pipes at home Last edited by Noelpolar; 06-01-2011 at 03:13 AM.. Reason: spelling correction |

+1, I have Michelin Pilot Sports (PS2's, are super sports different?) on my 19"s and they are as comfortable if not more than my previous 16"s. Maybe I haven't driven on potholed country roads yet but the car drives like a dream on inner city roads with those tyres.

That's correct, also they don't take paypal from overseas also. I did a bank transfer via my Internet banking...... It's an international transfer ..... St George charge $20 and it's done via your normal banking transfer screen....... Alternatively you can go into a bank to do it.

Hi all, i was thinking of buying tires from the states when I bought my new rims. Is the car still road worthy when you by tires overseas? I was told once that if they don't have a particular AUS stamp on them then your car is not road worthy or covered via insurance.
If any one can confirm this would be great! |

I've heard all sorts of opinions on this. My understanding is that as long as the tyres are the correct load/speed rating and size for your car they are roadworthy. When I swapped to non-RFT non-Aus market PS2s, I rang BMW/Allianz and they asked me to submit a receipt for the purchase and fitting of the tyres.
Funnily the current set I have awaiting fitment says they are for the Aus market on the sidewalls.

US tyres are DOT approved, I don't see the problem in Australia. It's not like they're more shitty, insurance is gonna have a hard time denying claims.

Quick question
do I need to ring up a tire place before hand and ask them if they are willing to put US tyres on my car OR can I just assume they will do it? ie are they likely to flat out refuse to put US tyres on my car due to some crap about ADR or something? |

I had no issues. The tyre fitter didn't say anything but had a bloody hard time replacing the tyre due to his shitty equipment which was struggling with the 19" wheel

Don't tell them. Just make the booking and remove any reference to Tirerack. There is no problem.

In the trade it is called a "strip and fit" ....... They do it all the time. I was charged $25 a wheel fitted and balanced (they had to remove the runflats). If you are getting runflats removed/fitted then ensure the shop has the appopiate skills etc. The shop I went to only had two of it's fitters qualified to do them.
