Focal IFBMW vs. ES 100K
I'm trying to figure out exactly what I'm paying for with the IFBMW package. As far as I can tell, I get custom-fitted speaker mounts, and some speaker wire with inline crossovers, and a few tools and accessories.
Is there any reason I can't just buy the ES 100K and DIY the 4-hole cage into the 3-hole mount? |

You can buy speaker adapters. I don't think the IFBMW are as high end as some of the others in there quality or power handling abitlitys. I think they were meant as a plug and play option for the stock systems. |

TechninPNP (Google it.) IMO, you are paying a premium for any of the "drop-in" solutions. They have to spread the R&D and manufacturing across a smaller number of units when making something that is platform specific. Performance is likely on par with something in their line at half the retail price points. If you want budget performance there was a guy on the F10 forums putting together a kit consisting of Faital Pro 4" mids and Dayton Audio 3/4" tweeters with a simple in-line 6db/octave crossover for the tweeter. If you wanted to put together the same configuration, it should be less than $150 for everything. Having personally used the Faital Pro drivers from this setup I would guess that the performance would not be outdone by any of the commercially available drop-in offerings at 4 times the price. Any concerns about the stock processor attempting to DSP the system with the wrong settings? I've heard it does active noise cancelation, as well as a baked-in EQ tuned for the factory system. I really don't want to dive into spending $800+ on a new amp and processor if I don't have to... |

Pretty sure L7 was standard equipment on all 2007 and 2008 335 models.
OP, what are you trying to accomplish? Were you just looking to replace mid/high speakers, doing an entire system overhaul...? |

I just finished installing a pair of K2 Power ES 100 K 's in my doors. I also installed a JL Audio VX600/6i, so I can't comment on how they would sound without the amp replacement.
At first I ran them with the stock amp, but I had hooked up the spade lugs wrong and the 4" driver was not working at all. Needless to say that sounded awful Edit - here's a photo: Last edited by smacame; 05-15-2018 at 07:21 PM.. |

The E92 is especially crampt between the speaker and the windshield. You have to buy specific speakers that are meant to fit. E90 is a little more forgiving. |
