Helix IC installed

I am in the Bay Area, CA, home of the un-finest faux 91 octane.

My mods are PROcede CANBUS, catless DPs, DCI, and now a Helix IC.

I was running a Stage II map w/UT set to 76%. I've just bumped that up to 79% to see if it still feels strong.

So far, so good. It didn't get too hot today and I think I need to drive a little more to educate the ECU, but think I can do a full Stage II with the upgraded FMIC.

Has anyone else in the 91 octane zone w/the same mods tried a full Stage II (80% UT) or a de-tuned Stage III with good results?

shouldn't you run stage III with dps and ic? that's what i've been told. stage I for tune/DCI, II for dps exhaust, III for all of above + IC...

I still have the other set of cats. Also, 91 octane freaks me out.

I went through 3 engines with my RX-8, so I am erring on the side of caution.

Maybe Shiv can shed some light on this...

simple:

if you arent catless, run stage 2

if you ARE catless, run stage 3

even if you have exhaust and downpipes, but your exhaust has HFC's or your downpipes do...those count as a catalytic converter, so..stage 2

There is some flexibility with those requirements of course. Just don't use a map that is too aggressive for your mods.

Do some datalogging of stage 2 and stage 3. High flow cats flow at about double the CFM of stock.

I don't know that it's so simple. Shiv's recommendations don't factor in an upgraded FMIC or quasi-catless ops.

Are there such things as high flow cats for the secondary cats (not the DP cats) ? If so, I'm down.

I've asked the question before and received deafening silence as a reply.

I replaced the 2ndary cats with have high flow cats. I tried stage 3, then stage 2 but didnt seem any faster or I wasnt comfortable with those maps, so i went back to stage 1 which feel just right. I didnt do any log though. BTW, I have Rev I.

magnaflow 59995 looks like 2.25" which is probably good for a stock system (which is 2.36"), 59956 is 2.5" for most aftermarket catbacks, and then 59959 @ 3" is what AR Design uses in their downpipes.

Great info!

This was a little test table that I found somewhere on the internet a couple of weeks ago. I believe it says that unrestricted, under the test configuration the pipe will do 1000 CFM, with some stock cats 300 CFM, and with Hi Flow, Spun Metallic 600 CFM:

I have similar mods as you, also on stock exhaust, and I'm running Stg3 @ default value. I think it's 90%? Everything's running great, pulls hard above 100mph. BTW, I have Rev.I with the 5-29 map.

Don't you get 92 octane in Oregon?

i'm running stage 2 with FMIC, tune and DCI. I have one map set at 75% UT and the other one default at 80%. The default setting seems to pull harder and no problems so far. Once i get DPs, i plan on trying map 3.

oh and I have all 4 stock cats still.

Yes, but I think you'll be okay with 91 oct......I doubt that 1 oct point would be the deal breaker, if you know what I mean.........Unless you guys have REALLY SHITTY gas down there, which I wouldn't know anything about.

1 octane point does make a difference. Also, our gas (at least in the Bay area) is really bad.

What UT are you using with Stage III ?

How many HP does 1 oct point equal to? ~2-3 hp? IDK, you should try it, doubt that it'll throw a code, maybe, maybe not.......

I just tried Stage III with UT set to 79%.

No codes, and it feels better than Stage II w/ UT set to 79%.

It's not a hot day, though.

Octane is a measure of knock resistance. Especially on turbo cars, every point helps. It's also not totally linear...it's not x HP / octane point.
