320i N43 Cam chain rattle cold start after being left for a few days

Hi all, new to BMW ownership and this forum. I have noticed if I leave my car for a week and then start it, I get a chain rattle for a few seconds. It is fine if used daily.

This will be likely be your issue. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1852684

N43 are notorious for stretching timing chains and breaking the plastic chain guides. The broken plastic pieces fall into the sump and get stuck in the oil pickup and cause oil starvation to the engine. I would get it looked at asap before you have big engine issues.
