But there's something about that alcantara, those recaros, that B&O sound system, and the sound of that motor, the way it's just so planted at higher speeds, the way it feels like a more substantial car... that just makes you feel like you're in something a lot more special than the 335.

If I had to choose one, i'd pick my 335 without question. I wouldn't in stock form, and I wouldn't if I were older (I'm thinking 35 will be my mod-obsession cutoff point). But whether or not i'm a huge fan of the 335 (I am! my e90post join date and mod list speak to that. I'm never selling my 335.), I can't say that the S5 isn't the nicer car.
I'm not sure if it's more special - to each his own. I'm on my second 335 and as you can tell (my join date) that I'm a little sensitive to comparisons to Audi. I agree that the 335 in stock form is not as much fun as a modded one. Pick a tun JB, Vish, Cobb, whatever...the car comes alive. I've never driven a modded Audi but I hear they are beasts. Especially ABT tuned. 503 and 457 Not too shabby.

I had a similar feeling re: the A6 when comparing it with/to a 535i. It's so much more about cushiness over driving. But that's not to say, were an A/S 5 the only car I could get at a point in time that I'd be unhappy with it. They look very nice and make fine boulevard cruisers, and likely fine daily drivers...

S5 looks good but the corner isnt as sharp as my 335i, ride is too soft as a "sport" coupe even though in dynamic mode. It changes gear a bit faster then my 335i and fart every time it changes gear. I would expect its a bit faster with a V8 4.2L. Nowadays A4, A6 and A8 look the same, i think that isnt a good idea.

Actually, it's my understanding that they are tuned versions of the same 4.2.

OK, to put it simply, Audi is not going to make a better BMW than BMW does. BMW is not going to make a better Audi than Audi does. Most would agree that the ideal combination would be Audi body with BMW mechanicals and Japanese reliability.

The only problem I see is that BMW has been straying from their formula recently. The electrically steered 5er and Z4 look nice but have fared poorly in comparison tests. I hope they do not add electric steering to the next 3-series.

Since the issue is traction control, it could be remedied by BMW by tweaking the software.

I wonder if the software has evolved at all over the years. I'm new to BMW so I don't have a reference.

I agree. The first nanny that kicks in (forgot whether it's dtc or dsc) is overly intrusive. It should allow for minor wheel slip so the exact situation I described does not happen.

I can't exactly comment on the 335i v S5 in regards to performance because I never had a 335i or any turbo charged car for that matter. But in regards to looks (had an E92 328i, which has the exact same exterior and interior as the 335 minus the tail pipes and badge) I can pretty much say that the S5 wins hands down. It just looks more luxurious, and aggressive looking. In comparison the E92 looked a little bland, especially the interior.

The only other bimmer I can compare with currently in regards to performance is my ///M5. Obviously I can't compare power because the ///M is in a different league, but in terms of handling and road feel, it is infinitely better. BMW just has the right formula when making the perfect drivers car.

At the end of the day, its just depends on what you are looking for.

I have an 07 coupe and a '10 Avant plus.

Dash wise they are apples and oranges. I like both for different reasons.

The Audi has more options but im talking about fit and finish and feel.

Not sure which I like better. I got my 328 used but was shopping for an A5 first and could not get a good price on one. Personally I liked it better but felt the BMW had more for the money.

All things aside, if I were gong 335 vs S5 I'd pick the S5 no doubt.

So you're comparing a full optioned s5 (about 60k for the prestige plus which has just about every option) to a BAREBONES (no leather, no up rated stereo, no multimedia screen, no metallic paint, etc) m3?(coupe starts at 59k)?

Wasn't this argument beaten to death when the 335iS pricing was released?

S5 Price in Canada is about $15,000 less than M3 and it does not perform as well....its down about 64 hp and is more of a touring car.

The S5 i test drove was in high 60s, which is similar range with M3

3,5 and 7 don't look alike?? New 5 is a stretched 3. Wait until you see the new 3.
family resemblence is done on purpose.

I don't know what the hell all you guys are on about in here. I guess I'm the only person that thinks a 335 looks better than an A5. I'm not saying it's ugly but for some reason it just doesn't do anything for me. A couple of my friends go absolutely ape shit everytime they see one and I'm like "meh." Different strokes for different folks I guess. I'd rather have a 335is than an A5 and I'd rather have an M3 over an S5.

more accurately its:

A5 2.0/3.2= 328i/335i
S5 = 335is
RS5 = M3

More accurately it's:

A5 2.0 = 328i
A5 3.2 = 335i/is
S5 = M3
RS5 = Nothing because it's not for sale in America until 2012. (But even when it does, M3 is still superior.)
