F30 backing plates don't fit on the Xi's wheel hubs.

do tell... I had to drill new holes, but the plates cleared just fine once I'd done so; what exactly was the issue?

realoem.com shows different part numbers for 335i vs 335xi, but the pictures do not illustrate how the plates are different; we're counting on you to show how these fail to fit:

#5 in each:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=34_2287
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=34_2287

the backing plates for the F30 335i and 335Xi are the same part, so no hope for a reprieve there

You guys should take note that the parts I used originally have been superseded by a parts without the big scoop. The original part numbers (34116792237 and 34116792238) don't seem to be available anymore.

Old thread, but is it confirmed that the lighter 2 piece rotors fit all e9x 335's as an upgraded replacement?

A quick search shows that FCP has them in stock and the photo looks right.

They fit, I had them back in the day. Yes you'll save a lb or two, not much, but really the advantage is that the aluminum hats don't rust and don't look like shit behind the wheels.

And the discs dont warp radially as a result.

Aus335iguy just curious, not sure I got you there - you're saying they warp radially otherwise because......?

There's no room for them to expand with the heat in the radial plane. Think of it like a washer(the kind you put under a bolt)
If the hole in the centre became bigger how would that affect the surface? It bows and warps it be a cause it has no where to go. That's why we use semi and fully floating discs. Not the only reason but one of many.

That's my understanding of it. Someone with a better understanding may correct it if I'm wrong.

If I got you right you're saying the rotors are warping due to the fact that the hub expands and distorts the attached rotor surface
I might be wrong but I always thought the alum hat discs are better in terms of heat dissipation and that's what benefits the rotors and keeps warping in check?

The rotor expands a lot more than the hub but otherwise yes. That's why racing stuff is all floating. The discs aren't directly attached to the hub at all.

Ask me how I know.
Jeffman can you provide some details as to why they didnt fit for you please?

I know this is an old thread but thanks for the inspiration with those backing plates. I picked up some of these used early F30 335i plates yesterday as I'm gonna do my front brakes tomorrow and will look into mounting them as well for better cooling at the track.
I can't find any details for fitting them on the E9x XI but the F30 has the same ones on 335i and 335xi, so let's see what happens.
I got the exact same part number ones that rwalker got.
