So ... i have opened my catch can.
And i am more than shocked.

I was expecting to see some oil, but not the full can, so i would suggest catch can as an must have upgrade.

Also the oil was very dirty and with a lot of soot on the bottom.

Lexx, how many miles to collect that volume? That looks like about 8-10 ounces. Did you possibly measure how much volume that was.

Quickdzl, I forgot to measure the can this weekend. I was under time crunch when pulling intake off.

Unfortunately i can't remember exactly how many miles.
I would say something like 5-7k.

I was just impressed what volume of oil was going thru the intake and cylinders.
I am happy that i have catched it before. And probably i have to change oil twice a year not once as i was doing before.

Its been awhile since I posted, I wanted to drive 12,000 miles + before doing the drain.

All seems to be holding up after 24 months+. The 2 elbow fittings are still holding up fine. I think if you make too much of a modification to the sidewalls of the fittings is when they weaken the sidewalls, and eventually they crack and give out. The elbows I have on are unmodified. It's very difficult to fit on if not modified, but doable.

For those of you who have gotten the kit from me, I hope it's holding up well for you and please share your accumulations.

135i_vs_ Your drained volume looks to be about 4 oz. I drained about 1 oz for 3000 miles driven. I have no sludge. I empty can when oil is changed. Don't even try to get me to wait until 12,000 miles for an oil change.

I never did any mod's to the elbows you supplied. Only mod I made was to shorten the braided hoses. I believe that your elbows haven't cracked but I equally say mine did and I didn't mod them. Switchover to brass elbows did the trick for me. During this last 3000 mile run, I got NO oil in the throttle body. There is a hockey puck thing on top of the valve cover. I've heard of those going bad from UK guys on this forum. This might explain why some of us collect so much more than others. I fall into the small collect categorie.

The elbows that were provided to you were modded by me, for easier installation, since some complained it was too tight for them to install. Also, the first person that had them fail here modded it himself, which could explain the reason for his failure. Moving forward, I would only slightly mod them for long term reliability.

Even better news today. I had to remove the air box, snorkel to the turbo, and other h/w today. There was no oil in the inlet throat to the turbo. Bone dry.

I switched block off plate from exhaust manifold from my homemade one + Iaknown plug to AARodriguez machined one. Very very nice. The catch can is doing a much better job these days.

Can anyone post pics of their setup as far as hose routing and size? I'm trying to set one up but need a general idea of how much hose I'll need

Mine has held up for 20k miles now. It did get a spot rubbed where it contacted the EGR cooler, though.

I don't know about that. But I was an aerospace engineer by trade and try to think outside the box when it comes to the DIY stuff nowadays. I believe mounting location is the key factor making a catch can useful. It needs to be located where it's going to be cooler (i.e. front of the car) in order to take advantage of temp differential for vapor condensation. Then you look at what you have to work with and design something that fits.

That drain nozzle - vents to atmosphere? Looks like it's just pointing down at the ground.

The EGR and CCV systems are basically un-related right up to the point where the EGR valve sits. That's where the 2 mix and CBU begins. The presence or absence of EGR has no effect on the crankcase vent's function, either stock or modified with a catch can.
