Error Code "00CED4"

Hi folks,

The car in question is a 335D 2008

I have searched for this code but cannot find any information relating to just this code. Usually it is included which a bunch of others which my car doesn't seem to throw up.

Basically the car goes into limp mode when pushing on, usually around 65, 75mph.
Doesn't seem to matter which mode I am using, D,DS or paddles.

Turn the car off, fault clears and seems to drive normally. I can drive above 65mph providing I do so "normally". As soon as I ask for more I go into limp mode.
Also if I clear the code it goes until it is triggered again.

Have taken it to a local indy, usually pretty good, who said dpf. I doubt this to be the case unless it is totally gone and unable to regenerate as have drove over 120miles to Wales without it doing anything.

Any clues? Fuel rail pressure, blocked fuel filter, dpf, injectors ?

Search without the 00, I had the same issue. Doesn't seem to help much though.

Oh no I don't have your issue, I meant with no results coming back.

At a guess, the code is suggesting an external CAN message (Torque3?) isnt getting communicated correctly.

One would surmise this could potentially be a wiring issue (chafed wiring or corroded connectors or similar?)

What controller is giving the error? DDE or the Transmission?

Is the car mapped?

Car scanned with the BMWhat app so not sure I can tell ?

Car is booked in the local indy, used for along time with other cars, to investigate but would like to at least give them a starting point.

I have checked the fuel filter which has a date stamped on it and is less than 8months old.

Dpf Im not too worried about as will be getting removed in the near future. But unsure if it is this causing the rest of my problems ?

The actual codes + wording.

Fault: unkown failure
Code: CED4
Motor Control:
Engine / Motor
Fault: Message failure
Code: 49F2
Fault: Rail pressure-pressure-controlled plausibility
Code: 4600
Fault: Particle filter system
Code: 480A

so the CED4 code is in the "fuel pump" module, the other three are in the "motor control" module, ie the DDE.

49F2 is a canbus message fault as well, related to vehicle speed.
4600 is suggesting your fuel pump rail pressure is too low.

The one i'd be looking at here is that last code. It could be a fault with the high pressure pump itself, or it could be a fault with the lift pump in the tank, or even a sensor fault somewhere.

You could do some logging viewing live data and see what the fuel rail pressure is doing vs the desired pressure.

edit: actually the "fuel pump" module is AKA "EKP", which is an ECU that controls the speed of the in tank lift pump in accordance with the calculated fuel demand. So potentially somethings causing the EKP to get confused and shut down the electric fuel pump, which in turn causes the rail pressure to drop and you end up in limp mode.

I think this has been logged by myself but at the time just confirmed the code related to the pressure. Fuel pump was suspected but at the time I didn't know there are several to choose from lol.

Requested was something like 1600bar and it only peaked at around 1400bar

I apologies if the figures / units are a little out as is from memory but that was the sort of gap between the numbers.

Just to update the thread.

Currently diagnosed with a fuel pressure sensor fault. They unplugged the "front" one which has stopped the car from going into limp mode.
I haven't tested it out myself yet but hope this is the cause as a fairly simply fix considering.
Will only know if this does work when the part arrived as has to be ordered in.

Apparently the car has two? sensors. Unplugging the "rear" one stopped the car from running all together.

Sensor replaced and still problem persists.

Now have a "new" fault code

Rail pressure control plausibility
Code: 4600

I'm guessing it now is the dreaded hpfp which has gone.

Just gone out to re-read the car to get the full log.

No faults are currently showing which is a little strange. Looks like I need to take it for a drive over the weekend and see what happens. I had cleared the faults but the car has been driven around since, though not "booted".

Will update again once I get the chance to get the car upto speed.

I have deleted the dpf and no more limp mode. Fingers crossed this is the problems solved

Hey mate, did the fuel pump codes ever come back? Did you end up replacing the high pressure fuel pump?

Touch wood I haven't been into limp mode since deleting (removing) the dpfs. I suspect they were blocked resulting in to much back pressure under load. The fuel pump hasn't been touched.

The car has been put through its paces including a trip to the autobahn and the nurburgring so fingers crossed its sorted

Thought I would keep this upto date for future searches.

Turns out it wasn't just a blocked dpf but lack of fuelling.
After testing the lpfp and the injectors the only thing left to test was the hpfp. The pump was well out of spec and as a result failed on the test bench.

The pump was replaced and all is well in the world.

No more stuttering top end and the thing pulls harder than I have felt before. Think the pump may have been on its way out when I purchased the car but we live and learn.

Will update again if anything else pops up in relation to the fuelling problem but for the time being I will enjoy
