I do 20,000 miles a year. Last year I bought 3 x 5L and right now I have 1.5 left in the garage.

In the summer you don't top up at 1:1 which makes quite a difference on usage and to be fair, the 6L washer tank on a 3 series does last for a number of weeks.

I would expect a 20L supply to last you 2 or 3 years

BUT

I just don't want it to happen this year, so hoping the BMW stuff doesnt evaporate or freeze in the first place.

Suppose it should be 50/50 for harsh winter, say -20c at night like we had?
the reason it is rated atminus 63 deg is not so you can dilute it cause it only gets to minus 20 max but to protect from wind chill factor
In 2001 a new international formula was introduced the basic normal values for here in Switzerland are below.
So if traveling at 50 MPH at minus 20 deg the wind chill factor will give you a temp of minus 38 therefore freezing your washer fluid as it comes out of the washer jets. check it out at:

http://www.britishweatherservices.co.uk/calculator.htm

Temp (o C) -20 : Wind Speed (mph) 50
Old wind chill = -52 New wind chill = -38

Hmmm

Wind chill only applies to skin as it's all about how you FEEL colder because of the wind (something to do with the heat being drawn away from your body)

On inanimate objects (such as water) regardless of the speed of travel or the wind speed, if the outside temperature is -20 then the coldest the water can every become is -20

I think your source is confused.

I also noticed on that calculator that if the temp is 0 degrees C and there's a 2000mph wind, it'll feel like it's over 900 degrees C!! Maybe it's the friction or something...

Hi Guys,

Reading this thread has reminded me that, having bought an AUC from a dealer in August, the screen wash seems to be just water since it doesn't have a 'detergent foam' or smell like other screen washes I use. Haven't used car a lot since purchase but screen doesn't seem to clear that well.

It was an ex BMW management car so should have BMW screen wash! But should BMW screen wash have a smell/foam? Is there a way I can determine if there is screen wash present and importantly its strength?

I live 20 miles from my nearest BMW dealer so can this test be performed by myself or other garages?

Grateful for your help,

David

BMW screenwash is clear but it does have a smell...not too sure how to describe it but its slightly alcoholly if that makes sense! You can check the concentration of the mix with a refractometer - something that garages will use to determine the ammount of glycol concentration in your coolant...any decent garage should have one!

Thanks Shane55,
It definitely does not have an odour and is tasteless! I shall get it checked at a garage and then I suppose all I can do before the really cold weather is to use it as much as possible to make room for a concentrated wash.

Thanks again

Apparently due in from Germany next week!
Thanks for supplying this, just what I was looking for. I will try and order some of this from my local Rybrook. I may check to see if Anneka is interested in supplying.

I've just ordered one of these from Ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genuin...ht_1355wt_1396

I wasn't actually looking for a BMW specific item, but it seemed like the best deal to me. If it is good, and they have any left, I'll order another for my wife XC90.

I may be able to arrange something depending on the quantity needed.

Can we please start a list to see how many are interested in this product as a 'group buy'?
As a guide, the RRP is £42.98 inc VAT.

Please only add your name if you are able to collect from a Sytner BMW dealership (www.sytner.co.uk/bmw)

N.B. 5lt of screenwash retails at £15.89 inc VAT, so by purchasing the 20l box you currently save £20.58.

Collected from local Sytners?

If so, I'll start the ball rolling...

Oh darn, hadn't seen this, just phoned my local dealer and ordered some at £40 plus VAT minus 5% trade discount (comes to £93 for two boxes and one tap), still it is a bit for me to drive to Sytner unless a trip planned to Birmingham. I should have enough now for a few miles anyhow! I guess anyone considering this could still have a courier pickup and deliver from Sytner for not too much.
