Yes, I was aware it did that but I don't know how it does it!

Bargain Creepy!

The AA came and did it for me a while back on a hire car i had (oops) and charged £200 + VAT.

Plus the £50 of 'wrong' petrol they sucked out, plus another £50 of Diesel I had to put back in it.

Expensive day.

Easy thing to sort out I guess if you had not started the car.

A final rant on this. All very well for the manufacturer to say it is our mistake but what a flippin EASY mistake to make eh? Wish we were more PRO-active and use those French style fuel pumps rather than just cleaning up the mess afterwards, then again there is no money to be made in that.

Rant now out the way and that is the last one from me now cause my car is back and running smoothly.

Sytner came across in a no hassle and non-pedantic way which was a breath of fresh air really. Of course the bill could have been a lot cheaper and I could have done other things but that is down to my own naivety and panic at the time also the fuel filter was changed which I am not sure the RAC/AA would do. £100 of course went on a full tank of fuel not sure you get a full tank with the breakdown guys either, most of these are done at the fuel station forecourts anyhow.

Indeed, that does sound like a lot.

The AA said to me they will not do the on-site drain if you have driven the car more than a few hundred metres becaue you will need filters and flushing etc.

I was still on the forecourt luckily.

And they don't GIVE you any new fuel, you have to pay for every penny - they added £10 worth to the bill, but you have to fill it up yourself after they've gone

So in theory then the dealer bill is starting to make sensse, just.

The AA for me would have cost about £290 to just do a drain cause I am not a member, as I am currently with BMW roadside assist via the comp warranty. Then I would have paid £100 more to pay for a full tank of Diesel that I got when I picked the car up.

Then say £150 to get a new fuel filter fitted. Thats £540 already without taking into account dealer labour rates for the drain and then hopefully testing the car and giving it a good run to ensure everything is ok afterwards.

As for the warranty then I guess even if I had not gone through BMW any future probs. would have been picked up as a mis fuel and a claim would have become invalid anyhow so I am not fooling anyone there and perhaps being honest with BMW might help in the long run.

I take it that you are now going to go out and spend another £25 on a mis-fuelling preventer to go in the fuel filler??

I've fitted one to mine, just for peace of mind - I drive both petrol and diesel cars, and whilst I haven't put unleaded in to the 5er, once I did get as far as getting the nozzle in the filler before I realised. Cold sweats indeed!

On a diesel only because the diesel lubricates the pump. This does not affect petrols at all

I've already had two very near misses. So, after reading your tale of woe,I've just ordered a fuel angel(cheaper to buy from the web site) as I don't fancy a premature visit to Sytners!
Cheers for sharing ;-)

This will all be a non-issue once we are in milk floats.

Someone at work on another site had their brand new hybrid delivered earlier in the week. Funny thing was that they could not work out how to start the thing. It got pushed out the way later.

Hi mate

Has yours arrived yet? Got no email saying it's been shipped and so far nothing in the post.

Ordered direct on the DDN website a week ago: http://www.misfuellingprevention.co.uk/

I own one diesel and one petrol car, I get so paranoid about this situation. To a point where I actually just stop and stare at the pumps for about 5 mins before i make my choice.

No it hasn't arrived.I paid with paypal and it seemed that they didn't send this as an order to the company.
I phoned them up and spoke to Tom Mason on 01325 486 274-he appears to be a co-owner.
If you send him an email direct at tom@fuelangel.co.uk with a copy of your transaction receipt (I sent him my paypal confirmation) and he will sort the issue out.
I asked for a confirmation e-mail, which he obliged with.
Hope this helps and i'll let you know if mine arrives...

I won't elaborate,so let me know what you think.
I just hope it's ok come filling up time!

Thanks for the updates I did ring em up also and spoke to that Tom person.

As you say it seemed they had issues with orders via paypal.

Mine actually came yesterday but my doorbell did not wake me up so will probably pick it up from the PO next week sometime.

Cheers

You could always make the mistake of re-charging your milk float with the 415vac three phase socket in your garage isntead of the 230v.
