Ahaha good spot.

So it got down to -18c last winter, so 1:1 should just do it, or maybe increase the concentration a bit.

I use nothing else now. I had massive dramas trying to get anything last winter for heading up to Scotland during the worst of the cold. Halford had run out of anything that went below about -10 and out of interest I tried the dealer. Ended up buying a load of their stuff, using it 1:1 and it working out cheaper than the halfords stuff! Plus, not nearly as much frozen blue gunk all over the front of the car!

Yep, I don't think it dropped below -23 here last winter, so 1:1 would be fine.

However, no matter how concentrated it is, those tiny nozzles will always freeze and cause problems till the engine warms them up a bit.

I think I've only topped up once since popping the headlight washer fuse last winter.

If you fill the washer bottle with 100% BMW fluid, it's good down to -63c.

If the bottle is 50% BMW fluid, it is good down to -23c

Given last winter, 50% seems like a good idea.

And it won't save you if you remove the fuse for the headlight washers. The damage is done when the water in the pipes freeze and the washers then project out a bit from the bumper. When spring comes, they will disappear the first time you use them. I know, it happened to me.

Remember also, with enough fluid and the heated washer jets, you can always use your washers on a cold winter's day which, as has been said, is when you need them most... begs the question, why are we acting like asses and not using the damn stuff!?

I've never heard anything bad about the BMW washer fluid, it can be bought at a reasonable price, and it smells quite good.

I use Sonax Clearview anti-freeze concentrate. This worked for me in Cumbria when the temperature outside was -14, when used in a concentration of 1:4

Having said that the 5L BMW product sold on eBay looks to be good value. I also think that BMW car care products are made by Sonax (compare the packaging of both offerings), so the screenwash is probably the same stuff.

Really good points Alan.

So at 50/50 mix, 5L is not going to last long in our two cars....may have to order the 20L next

its a bit off the line but just to let people know that I have suffered from the head lamp washer on the left side popping out due to freezing......for the last three winters it has happened and every time it was replaced free of charge (even out of warranty last year) due to the fact BMW are aware of the issue, have claimed that its a design fault and are trying to fix the problem. If this happens to anyone this winter go straight to ur main dealer and explain that you are ware of the situation with BMW taking responsibility for the problem. If they do not offer you a free replacement ( which 99% of dealers wont ca BMW customer care who will sort the problem straight away as they have for me every year. hope this hep I may be repeating someone else..

I've ordered the 20litre "drum" and been called today to tell me it's on back order already!

Works out at about £2 a litre, hopefully save me from another two sets of head light washer jets and covers this year...
