Sorry to hear!

The possibility of this happening made me replace timing chain and tensioners at 172k miles on my car. My chain was already skipped by 1 and I didn't know it till we took engine apart.
The chain is very tough but not indestructible and usually tensioner will slack the chain and disaster happens.

I broke 165k miles yesterday. I drove 100/day to get to and from work, so I do pile them on. I'm on factory turbos, stage 2 with only catless downpipes, and have been tuned since 130kish. Runs perfectly, just got around to replacing the main washer pump gasket on the windshield washer tank, and now she doesn't leak anymore! I even threw a new tank in my e46 yesterday too, and now both bmw's have working washer systems!

Hurray for no more warning triangle on my dash! And she still hits 110+ in 3rd gear without complaining one bit.

how hard was it to replace the chain? I'm starting to think that my crank hub seal destructed as the crank bolt is still on there tight

With the engine out? Not hard at all! Just get cam-locks and it's quite easy.
Best part, chain is cheap! I've paid around $150 for the kit.

You guys really put on the mileage, i'm about to hit 69k. Bought it in 2015 with 49k on it.

OFHG, HPFP, Oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, Water pump & thermostat, coils & plugs, walnut blast....most has been covered under an extended warranty thankfully.

I have a good friend just over 202k and tuned since 10-12k. Highway miles mostly and a lot of heavy acceleration at highway speed daily. Gotta keep them blown out.

New to this forum, but wanted to chime in on the mileage topic. Right now we have 222k on our 08 335i sedan. Just replaced the valve cover and gasket last week, thanks for the great instructions by the way!! I purchased this car at 176k to be my fun beater to drive to work and home, about 1:10 one way. This has been one of the best vehicles we have ever owned, I’ll just say my wife has taken it from me and is her daily driver now! We sold her 12 Escalade “gas guzzler” to save some money and now she talks about how much she loves this car. With that being said it’s stock, as far as I know has original turbos or all original. I change the oil every 5k and replace air filter as needed. I really want to get a Cobb tuner just for stage 1 to make it a bit more fun. I’m nervous I will break something if I do. I wanna change plugs and coils (which I should’ve done during the valve cover replacement) before I get the tuner. Should I just leave ole faithful alone or beef it up a little to have fun?
