BMW Performance Power Kit OR Akrapovic exhaust
I am having a Feb 2010 LCI N54 335i
For around similar budget, if you guys prefer the PPK or Akrapovic Evo exhaust?? PPK - see some threads the PPK changing the driving experience quite a bit and some mentioned that it also change the exhaust note, thorttle response and gear box speed. I know some say it is not worth the money but I am not planning to do big horse power chip-in in the future and I like to retain the warranty Akrapovic exhaust - this gains some power and torque. It turns the car into a more sport tune, and people told they are one of the best in exhaust area..... just afraid it will be too loud for me (especially my wife ) Can you guys share some experience? Many thanks!! |

If you're happy with how the car performs stock and just want a more robust exhaust tone then the Akra setup is probably the best/most expensive you can get but on a stock car the performance gains will not be there. |

actually I have read the PPK and exhaust pages for more than a week already
and so I quoted the price for the PPK and Krapovic Evo in HK too just that with limited budget, guess I will pick one only for the time being also, as for other tunes, I believe HK is a relatively conservative 2nd hand car market. so i think the BMW tune is easily to accept from the buyer if I sell it one day. by the way, i know the above tune branding are popular in Europe and US, but I guess a bit new in HK market (I may be wrong though :P) |

IMHO, an aftermarket CBE doesn't give back enough power gains to justify the cost (esp the Akra CBE, the Stainless Steel version is almost $3k). Golf-tee mod is the "budget" aftermarket exhaust.
But if you've got money to burn, buy the Akra. I recently had the Akra DPs installed on my car and after seeing the quality in-person (and being surrounded by people running the Akra Exhaust on their E9x M3s), I will ONLY buy Akra from now on. The quality & fit are incredible and the sound is perfect (aggressive without being obnoxious). Last edited by benzy89; 06-27-2012 at 12:20 PM.. |

Check out the "golf tee" mod - all you do is unplug a wire near your driver rear tail light. This will prob satisfy your exhaust tone needs and not upset your wife. PPK should be "good enough" for your needs and help a lot with heat. |

Thanks Benzy89 and Nafoo,
Yes I am trying to avoid a non BMW tune as I am not an expert which I can afford on problem coming out on aftermarket tuning...if you know what I mean.... Yes I know the Akra is in very good quality so why I am thinking on it... by the way, what does it mean for a "golf tee" mod? Can you elaborate how to do it? Thanks indeed. |

Golf tee mod = you zip tie the vacuum line, that way the exhaust flap will always be open Last edited by benzy89; 06-27-2012 at 12:51 PM.. |

I would probably do something else with the money. Those 2 choices are high dollar with little benefits.
The akropovic line up although nice provides little gains, and the BMW performance kit is expensive and also provides little gains as well. With that money spent you can get a lot of other mods and big gains like a tune downpipes and intercooler. |

easier than above is to simply unplug the exhaust solenoid which can be found behind the access panel for the driver's side taillight in the trunk. Here's the DIY:

Since OP was worried about warranty, I figured unplugging the exhaust solenoid would be a no-go

but you can just plug it back in. there will be a code there, 12140, but it's an innocuous code and I've left it unplugged many times when bringing my car in for work when it was under full warranty. one time they (JMK) just plugged it back in!

Hi all,
I'm newbie and seeking for your advice for my 2012 335i coupe. (E92-LCI) 1) I like to replace stock exhaust system (right after the down-pipe all the way to the tip) with the Akrapovic Evo SS system. Which this mod, is the Check Engine Light (Service Engine Soon...) will turn ON ? 2) I also thinking to go with AC Schnitzer exhaust, is this better than Akrapovic SS in term of performance? Thank you so much. |

AC Schnitzer will be more expensive (and more difficult) in the US. If you're leaving in the OEM catted DPs, you won't get a CEL. However, majority of the power gains are from removing the primary cats in the DPs, so you'll see maybe 5-10 HP gains from replacing the DP-back exhaust section |
