Adaptive Transmission Management

Can anyone explain to me how BMW adaptive transmission management works. I am particulary interested in how to reprogramme it whilst driving. If the journey starts off sedately and the transmission adapts to that style of driving is it necessary to turn off the engine and start again to initiate a more aggressive style, or will it switch styles after a kick-down?

Thanks Tom.

Welcome to the forum TOMKAT. I don't know the intricate in's and out's but it adapts to your driving style over a period of time. Turning the engine off then on will not clear it to start with a fresh map. Just drive like you want to drive and the transmission will quickly adapt to your driving style.

To reset your adaptations remove the negative cable from the battery for an hour.

Oh, and don't forget to LEAVE THE BOOT OPEN!!!!

I am assuming you have a steptronic auto !
I got this info from another forum member a while back !!
Try this :

" Turn ignition to stage 2 without starting the car. Floor the throttle over the kickdown point and keep it there for 30-40 seconds (kept mine for a minute to be sure) After about 25 secs you might hear a sort of a whirring noise from the gearbox area telling you it's done. Sometimes you don't hear anything, but it still works. Start the car and drive off. I am pretty certain you'll be impressed by a good spirited test drive.

Worth a try! "
