225/45/18 and 255/40/18 on 335xi E90
I decided to keep my rims and sell my run flats.
I purchased Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons tires. I bump the profile up 5 to 225/45/18 front and 255/40/18 rear. More tire between the rims and the road. The profile is higher by 1/2" or a full inch in diameter front and back. The tire tread is a full inch wider because these tires are a little more square. They ride great, no issues. I have seen only a slight (3%) mile per hour difference from Speedo to actual. Here are the stats on the F1s compared to the OEM. They are better all around and last 3 times longer. Tire______Tread Wear ___Traction____Asphalt Gs ___Concrete Gs F1_________400__________AA__________0.54_______0.4 1 BS RF______140___________A__________ 0.47_______0.35 HR springs are next! What do you think?

Considering the speedo is off about 5% from the factory, your speedo will actually be more accurate now! I have considered doing this just to counteract a most of the built-in speedo error.

Did you end up running 225/45s? Curious if there's rubbing issues

Sorry to bump an old thread....but I went to Discount Tire to get the same arrangement for my 2011 335XI (225/45/18 and 255/40/18) and they said it was greater than a 3% diameter variance to the OE size (225/40 and 255/35) and they wouldn't install that size on the car.
Any feedback on this? |

While it is true that a diameter difference between front and back must not exceed 3%, the resulting 4% increase all-around is not between front and back und thus is not critical for DSC or ABS.
The consequences of the diameter change have been discussed before. Basically, there is a max speed increase and the speedometer becomes more exact. Apart from this, there could be rubbing issues, but there aren't any, even less with an E90. In the EU, you even have to get approval for this and I got it. I don't know for sure with an X-Drive, though.

225/40/18 at the front, 255/35/18 at the rear gets you 0.227% difference in rolling diameter.
